I've never bought or sold on eBay. It's confusing to me and I don't have any interest in that anyhow. It's good that you have an interest I assume pays for itself. Go for it!

I've got tons of stuff in storage, from moving and I love ebay too. Maybe I should put some of it up for sale. You've inspired me. I've sold a few things, mostly clothes that don't fit over the years.I actually buy a good number of things from them. I have a horrible weight problem and it goes up and down like a yo-yo. Right now my thyroid is off and I've gained 2 sizes in a short period of time, ok now I'm inspired I think I might just list them on ebay. Thanks for the post.

dusty the key is to list it with the right key words that people will search for so make sure you word it right, that is half the fun the challange of making it sound great and getting people to watch and bid. I hate starting stuff at $.99 but that is one way to start a bidding war which is fun to click and watch. Rember too low resolution pics or they wont up load

I wish someone could explain how people sell things for so little and still find it worthwhile. I'm thinking of books in particular, when they sell for a penny/cent plus postage - any ideas

I don't know how people make money on those really low auctions either. After ebay fees, paypal fees, the cost of packing materials and gas to get to the post office, you lose money. I always set my auctions at the lowest amount I want it to sell for. That way I at least don't end up in the red. The stuff I list lately is jewelry I make so I have done pretty good with this venture...

Tha's awsome Erino. It's so huge to have a unique, popular, reselling product to sell on ebay.

There's so much to know about ebay. I've never checked out one of those ebay help courses, I pretty much know what they'll say. The one thing I'd like to start doing is adding my own designed backrounds to my auctions. Do you do this Erino? I would think that would really generate more traffic if you came up with some cool backrounds for your unique jewelry.

I just don't know how long it wil be worth it to really ebay anymore. Ebay's new policy's have really hurt the sellers. First they make it so that a seller can nolonger leave negative feedback on a buyer. The buyer can, but the seller can't. I don't get where they're coming from with that.
Then they made it so that sellers can't accept a MO or check as payment in their auctions. You can still do it, but you can't say in the auction that you do. Instead the buyer is required to have an electronic billing account set up like paypal. Who just happens to be owned by ebay.

And now ebay is pushing this "Sell your auctions with free shipping to generate more interest", BS, More like ebay can only make money on the money the item sold for, and not for added charges for S&H. So give them more money in fee's instead of in the sellers pocket. And they've set S&H charge limits on auctions to ebays advantage, not the sellers at all.

And now shipping is so expensive. I use USPS as much as I can, but even a smallish to medium item that's shiped Priority Mail(2-3 days) costs $4.80. Sometimes I end up losing alot of money on shipping. Last week I was shorted $4. I made $10 on the auction. But only got $6 because of the extra $4 on shipping.

And ebay fees have gone up. It's a bummer because I'm right their to do this more seriously, my paypal account is a "Verified" account. Trust me, every little bit helps. But I'm afraid I missed the boat when it comes to ebay.

It can be fun though, so don't let me bring you down about selling. I'm looking for something else to come along. I've heard of other auction sites that are starting to do well.

The only ebay adiction i had was for bidding! I bid on so many things which i couldnt pay for that i got kicked off! Tempted to rejoin but i figure id do the same again and its not fair on the sellers! Hope you werent somebody i mucked about!

I sell model airplanes to a very specialized crowd and set my prices above what my cost to build is to include all my costs. It is not as much the money I make on ebay as the customers that contact me and want me to build planes exclusively for them that is where the real money is, commissioned orders.

Real 'Live' Auctions are a buzz, especially if you want the item AND someone you don't like the look of, want's it too !

As for EBAY ? Well, I have bought on there BUT it was a straight sale. The 'bidding' on there is suspect in my opinion as I have seen used items go for more than buying the same stuff new from the shops/online.

And another problem is the defunked buyers. Sorry but it's true. As a seller, we have or get products that might need cleaning. Then we spend the time to take pictures. Then create the auction by adding a description as best as possible taking our time to get it just right. Even revising the auction to corrects spelling and gramar. Upload the pictures for the auction. Get charged all the auction fee's ect. ect.

Only to have someone bid and win that doesn't plan on paying for it, or doesn't have the money to pay for the auction they're responsible for.

And with this economy, almost everyone is looking for a great deal. And I'm finding more buyers requesting partial refunds.

I've got this 1 jerk that won a Sega Saturn(old gaming system) with 15 games. It sold for alot less then I thought it would. The guy tells me that some of the games were damaged during shipping. That's impossible because I'm known for packaging my auctions better than what's called for, and the games played just fine for me.

He's asking for $10 back on an auction that sold for half of what I expected. I look at his feedback and here's he's a vintagevideo game dealer that buys and sells alot on ebay. It's obvious that he won this auction to piece out and sell, and he's trying to make an extra $10 on the total deal.

Now as a seller, what can I do? The buyer hold ALL the cards now. If I don't give into him, or do something. I stand to recieve negative feedback. And on top of that, I can't return the negative feedback to the buyer.

What would you do?

Biggins. I agree. Ebay is raking the sellers over the proverbial coals. It is hard to find an items that sells well that you can make a little money on after all the fees. And I HATE the feedback restrictions placed on sellers. Because I make my own product to sell (and it sells pretty well) I can have a certain amount of quality control and offer 100% satisfaction. That seems to be working for me. I do offer free shipping. It has doubled my selling. No one notices that I increased the set cost of my items by that amount. It's all in knowing how to market i guess. Not that I know that... I have just been lucky so far... I do hate when I get my ebay invoice at the end of the month tho.. On a side note... I have gain many repeat customers who deal with me directly for custom pieces so thats the best part...

Have you been able to avoid non paying bidders?

My bill for fee's after december will be the biggest ever. So do you get an extra rush at christmas?

Do you ship insured, and/or with tracking? I can see how free shipping can help for some merchandise.
