awww, sad truth is drinking can potentially be a dangerous game on meds, especially those you mention. I take Seroquel and Effexor and I found I just had to stop drinking completely because it either made me fall asleep or end up having one of those bizarre emotional episodes.

I dont know why but alcohol rarely mix well with psychotropic meds.

No, but I can give you some advice as to why you SHOULDN'T do it.

Especially since you are on 3 different medications that all work on your central nervous system (and so does alcohol, that is why you get all stumbly when you're drunk)it is ESPECIALLY dangerous for you to drink while on your meds. And, unfortunately, it takes several days for it to get out of your system, so skipping your meds for the weekend won't work, either.

This is one of the most frustrating dilemmas for bipolars, especially younger ones like yourself, because it is also very typical for bipolars to have a drinking problem, or to drink more than they should.

SSSSooooo....what you could do is, pretend you have already had the trip to the ER and been really lucky to get your breathing and heart started again, have all those bills to pay now, and the memories of how you saw the bright light at the end of the tunnel and everything, (or, just be glad you didn't have to go that far) and be smart and don't do that.

I have to agree with #1. I quit all alcohol. I'm on too many antipsychotics. It's a dangerous game all right. Booze obliterates the effects of the meds and makes you feel terrible.

Exercise is good for you, and can give you a natural high if you do something that really gets your heart pumping. Are there any sports or activities that you really like?

Exercise is an excellent answer!! Something everyone with bp should be doing. Me included!!! I soo need to exercise!! That would really reduce the need for medication I'm sure and help to control the nagging extra pounds they put on you. And give you the endorphin high!!! Good thought!! Plus, you look sexier!! Drinking doesn't do that!

I was taking lamictal and seroquel and drinking... I had two suicide attempts. Don't do it, lady. It's not worth it. I smoke *** with my meds, and have no ill effects.

I can't drink on my meds.... it sucks. The doc gave me the ok to have a few drinks when I went out, but I literally CAN'T. I have one beer, and I seriously cannot keep my eyes open. Literally all I want to do is go to sleep. It sucks big time.

I am an alcoholic with 3yrs. of clean time.
In 2004 I took a toxic reaction to lithium because the levels in my system reached an overdose level,as all I was doing was drinking.
I was getting absolutely no excersize and was not eating either.
I went into severe seizures and my brain hemmoraged,causing irreparable damage to my cereblum.
I am now in a wheelchair,in a long-term-care facility and will NEVER WALK AGAIN!!!

well I am drinking a couple tonight, and I don't have any problems with that. I know not to get plastered and don't plan on a big night as I'm working all day tomorrow.
