that's an interesting angle - would be a great breakthrough if it turned out to be correct. Genetic research suggests otherwise to date though but hey i'm open to all new possibilities which might make our lives easier!

there were two doctors...both with views as you said. both agreed this is possible in some cases. i know mine is some heritery. some just imbalance and not diagnosed soon enough. well they did not do this stuff when i was a kid. i know i would have been ADD if tested as kid. \ my mind still wanders doing the most simple thing. let alone any thing i have to pay attention to. school was real bummer for me. i am with you on more genetic results.... but it was interesting on the types of infections that can stay in us and cause this. actually made sense what this doc researcher said. some of it is good common sense and like she said,,not harmful as it making us sick so to speak but breaking down some cells. and most times it is in brain cells. even Doc Oz questioned some things but was open to what she said made sense to him. i agree, would be wonderful if somethng like this would help....especially concerns me why kids are being diagnosed for all these mental illness in last yrs. and being put on all these meds. that scares me.

I had a whack-job family that went way back, depression, suicide...the works. I know I was born with Bipolar because I remember having a bad mood swing at 3 years old and another one at 6 years old. So, maybe an infection. But I don't think that would apply to everyone.

There are so many thing thought to cause BP its a crapp shoot some may be genitic also can be brought on by a trauma of somekind . So I am sure that this is another way added to a list that is longer than me I be over 6 foot lol

Given his track record I wouldn't take appearing on that show as being an endorsement of the robustness of any research. Alot of these theories get hangers on because it means they can sell some kind of cure and so some "doctors" then make alot of noise about it.

As far as I can recall apart from a straight genetic cause there is also some theories about a gut infection causing bipolar and one about it might be some kind of food allergy reaction type of thing.

The genetics bit is solid - huge studies involving records of literally millions of people. The "allergy" type theory there looks as if there is something there but it's alot less solid and unlike the genetics the link is alot poorer.

I thought the docs always say heredity and environmental. I agree with both those so I don't know why they are trying to add more into the mix. We all have genes in us past down and we all experience the environment differently this is why we have this stuff. I think people should accept what they have and try to do the best they can and always see your doc. Everyone has something so this stuff can be caused by stuff in the air and what is on the earth that is the environmental part along side any trauma we experimented on earth and we can not change or pick our genes we are born with stuff. We need to accept what we have and try to do good.

Dr Oz, ( 9 am not endorsing show at all,) did not agree with guest doctor really. just thought it interesting avenue they were discussing. for me it is heritery for sure also. and abuse and assault added to it. someone breaking into my house middle of night scarying me did not do me any favors either. so i am basket case of PSD to begin with..add the bi-polar , well, on well !!!
