Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Hello, this is my first post. I was recently diagnosed with BP2 after 15 years of severe depression and insomnia and trying treatments for major depressive disorder. I find myself doubting the diagnosis. I did a LOT of research on my own with my wife and we thought I might have BP before my diagnosis, so I am wondering if I just steered my Dr's in that direction. And even if I didn't, how could I be 43 and not have known I had this for over 15 years? My wife says she suspected it since 2007, but its all just a lot to take in. Anyone go through similar issues? Have any advice for dealing with a diagnosis you are not sure about?

Some things we don't talk about, we breathe them... Some things cannot be explained, but rather experienced. Some of the most healing moments arise when given the memory, acknowledging the love. One cannot go back in time; we move forward, and we carry the love we shared. There are Bipolar text books written on that symptom alone
Whether you definetely have bipolar disorder or not what your doctor can treat is the symptoms you are presenting with
If you aren't seeing a psychiatrist I would ask for a referral to one
If insomnia is a problem I would be careful of any caffeine intake
Big hug of comfort and support
Most of us have, at one time or another, gone through the "Am I really bipolar?" phase. It's just part of the package.
I will say that I was first diagnosed "manic depressive" in 1986 and took meds sporadically to help, but it wasn't until 2010, when I had been here on DS and looked back through several years of Journaling, that I Really realized I was bipolar and practically had two different sides of me. Yeah, I'm bipolar.
I hope you are seeing a psychiatrist and maybe therapist, too, to help you through the struggles.
But vent away on here as much as you need. That's why we're here!
