I don't see why any professional would ask you to discontinue abilify when your mood improved. As an anti-psychotic, abilify isn't going to elevate your mood into mania. I've gone many years using an anti-psychotic as a sleep med. Now I can understand the discontinue advice if you were using an anti-depressant but that's not the case here. It wouldn't bother me to advise you to continue taking your abilify which should help your spacey feelings and vivid dreams. I suspect that the scary alien in your dreams is a symbol for your mental health provider.

Find a new doc. I am also Bipolar II and was on Abilify for months until it stopped working. I'm no doctor but please talk to yours first and then find a new one. I have to say once you're diagnosed with this illness, you're looking at a lifetime of meds. It is what it is. Better than being on the bathroom floor sobbing. (From my own life) Good luck.

You probably either heard or remembered it wrong because your mind was wandering like bipolar minds do.


I tried using the "oh, I thought you said don't come in to work if you are called" on my boss, he didn't think it was funny this morning.

Check that order out, because what you're describing (stopping the med when you feel better) is like the stereotypical bipolar self defeating behavior.

More psycho-babble, but your scary "alien" could be seen as being your subconscious mind's interpretation of your diagnosis, and how it makes you feel "strange" or "different".
I was always told by my docs to NOT stop taking a med if I started to feel better, that it means they are working, and if I stopped I would start to feel just as crappy as I had before I took them, if not worse.
And sudden withdrawal from an anti-psychotic med has been known to cause psychosis, which can include hallucinations, as well as strange dreams and other symptoms, just like some meds can cause very strange and vivid dreams and other symptoms.
So, yeah, I think I'd double check with my prescriber if I was in your boat- something just doesn't sound right.
