Hi all, I'm new here, and not sure if I belong here. I'm not sure if I'm having signs of bipolar disorder. Sometimes when I sit at the computer or am reading a book, I hear music playing, like a radio. Nothing loud, but definitely distracting. My mother was a paranoid schizophrenic, so I worry it may be passed on. Any thoughts out there?

Audio hallucinations. Mine always sounded like a AM radio with static playing in another room. I remember getting up in the middle of the night, going room to room looking the the radio or TV left on.

Definitely a symptom of mania. When I start hearing "the radio", I know its time to see my pysch doc.

Welcome wolfspirit ….. I would make an appt with your family doctor and ask for a psychiatric consultation

It does read like it's an auditory hallucination perhaps?

We do have a treatable disorder so try not to despair if you do have schizophrenia or bipolar disorder there is help to be had

Welcome to the group. I agree with SunCloud, see your Dr. for a consult. That's the best thing you can do for yourself right now.

I think if you are 69 then it would have appeared more obviously some time in the past than the sound of faint music, whether it was bipolar or schizophrenia.

Please see a doctor - this might even simply be a hearing problem.

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
