Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
SpooniePrincess
Hi, I'm SpooniePrincess, and I have Bipolar I Rapid Cycling, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and have have had periods of psychosis that caused me to see, hear, and smell things that aren't there, as well as be catatonic after hearing bad news for three days. I also have other mental health issues, and loads of physical health issues, including severe chronic pain.
Okay, so that's a quick sum of why I'm on the Bipolar board. I can't remember if I ever introduced myself or not.
In spring time I usually get manic, and contrary to the snow on the ground, the days are getting longer and it's getting closer to spring. Tonight, when I washed my face the "pictures on the back of my eyelids" came back.
I call them "pictures on the back of my eyelids" because that's the best way I know how to describe them. I close my eyes and sometimes it's threatening looking shadows that seem to be advancing toward me, other times it's pictures, but always bad pictures, like rotting carcasses or dead human's bodies.
Does anyone else get these pictures on the back of their eyelids? For me it seems to always be a precursor to a mood change.

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

When I close my eyes I don't see horror, but I do see strange shapes and sometimes colors.
Yes. Actually now that you mention it, when I close my eyes sometimes I see horror pictures, like skeletons etc. Never thought anything of it other than it being an imaginative racing mind...but I did always wonder why it was such gruesome pictures when I do not surround myself with gore or anything of the sort...not even tv shows. Maybe I should talk to my doc about this.
I am also diagnosed with BP 1 rapid cycling, among other things. I don't see things when I close my eyes but I see shadow people and "things" when my eyes are open. The only time when I see dead people and gory stuff is when I dream about it.....horrible nightmares at times that wake me up in a panic.
When I am more stressed the shadow people come out, but they don't scare me, they just surprise me!!! I hear my name being called out and telephones ringing that actually are not.....used to that too now. I've never noticed this stuff happening before a mood shift but usually in times of high stress.
Again welcome and I hope you enjoy the people here, a great bunch!!
I just have dreams but that's about it.
I don't pictures or anything.
Ambient voices and some dreams-that's about it.
Welcome to DS. I hope you like it here.
I don't see the people behind my eyelids. They usually wait for me to go to sleep to come out. Nightmarish nightmares. Thankfully, the Seroquel has gotten rid of most of the night terrors.
Nice to meet you. Belle.
I normally can't picture things in my mind well. But there are times when I see some of the most vibrant and vivid images in my mind, and they tend to be a precursor to mania.
I love it when it happens because it's usually the precursor to a euphoric mania which doesn't happen often. I usually get dysphoric mania which pisses me off just thinking about it.
I don't get the pictures but I sure have had the shadows..
I'm so sorry you're struggling right now..
Do you have a prn to take??..Maybe you just need to add something or take a higher dose when this is happening...x
I'm also a rapid cycler ,I do hear and smell things no one else does around me .
I do see things that are not real ,but only when my eyes are open ..
Nice to meet you :)
Yep, when I close my eyes I experience the same kind of visuals you describe .
A change up with my mood stabilizer { Depakote } has lessened this problem a lot .
Still, if under a lot of stress, it still happens once in a while

They are called intrusive thoughts and cognitive behavioral therapy is the best therapy to help with this.
