Since I've gotten here my dad has barely said two words to me other than to snap back after I ask him a question or to yell at me. He spends all his time by himself. I've tried so hard to get him to do stuff with me but he doesn't want to. My grandmother is almost as bad. She's cranky all the time and gets drunk everything- my dad does too.
This is supposed to be a vacation; relaxing and fun- but it's not. I want to go home already and it's only day 3.
I've never met two people more unhappy and hateful in my life. I think they have forgotten how to be happy. I have not smiled or laughed since I got here, other than on the phone with my friends.
My dad won't even let me smoke on his property. I have to walk down the street on the sidewalk if I want a smoke.
He doesn't understand the pain I go through. If I were to say anything to him he would just yell at me for bitching and yell at me for being fat. Yet, it's okay for him to complain all day and want to be alone because of his pain.
Long story short, I am not coming back here for Christmas. I am going to stay in NY.
I feel like crying. I came here to be happy... I forgot how impossible it is to be happy around my dad. He screams and yells about everything. I ask him a simple question and if he doesn't hear me, he will snap at me in a very mean/hurtful tone, "WHAT!?" And just be pissy after that.
He and I are actually doing something today- going out for dinner. I'm scared to talk to him for fear he'll get mad at something I say. The whole drive from the airport was him yelling at me for 3 hours on and off. No normal talk. This should be this way.

The best you can do is make the best of the situation for yourself. Try and understand your father. If need be keep the topics on subjects that are hard to argue about like the weather and the food. I wish you the best.

I really regret that I gave up a lot of time I can't get back to spend time with him.

He still treats me like I'm 15 and and lie to him all the time. He doesn't even believe me I got four A's and one C+ last semester. He needs to SEE it or he doesn't believe me.
