Has anyone found that depakote causes depression. I know it makes you sleepy but I'm finding that my depression increases as my pdoc ups my depakote dosage.

What it does is mitigate the mania so your depression will seem more prevalent, you will need something for depression like Lamictal. Cheers.

Depakote is used to contrl manic episodes..and probably won't do much for your depression.Ask if Pdoc wil add a anti-D to your combo.

But,if you are like me,anti-D's can do very strange things to me..I get atypical reactions.

Ask about a low dose of BuSpar...it's a pretty mild anti- ,and has worked well for me(on LOW doses)...and I've been on most BP meds,w/o much success..this Depakote /BuSpar and Klonopin(for anxiety),has worked pretty well

depakote made me hungry all the time and my hair fell out in masses. I had to change to lamictal

1500mg of depakote made me very flat........... I was severely hypomanic when it was prescribed and it did work wonders on that........ but maybe a little too much...... I kinda felt zoned out so gave up after 10 weeks......... talk to your pdoc about it and see what they say...... good luck with it...

I have been on Depakote for a while now and I found that it was doing nothing for my depression. My pdoc insists that I take a mood stabilizer along with an anti-d so that i do not become manic. Right now I am on Depakote and Wellbutrin. Its working pretty good. Good luck at finding the right combo. Sometimes it seems to take forever!
