I was denied last december and I think I know how you feel. It's really hard to pick up the pieces when you don't know what else you can do. First, appeal it. The appeals process is on the ssa website.

Crap like this is why I don't feel bad any more for applying for any assistance I can get my hands on. My dad was denied SSD and he's got congestive heart failure, rheumatoid arthritis, and nerve damage in his legs. He can't stay in a standing or sitting position for very long without unbearable pain. It's ridiculous where the system has gotten to in this country. Those that need it can't get it, and (some of) those that get it abuse it without scruples. I'm not just talking SSD either; food stamps, housing assistance, you name it; they abuse it.

Was this your 1st turn down? Was this turndown in front of a judge? Sorry to sound ignorant but if it was your first turn down as hard as it is dont be disheartened as very rare to get it first time out especially based solely on mental issues. Just keep trying - its not an easy battle best of luck

I knew several BP's that were on SSI/SSD. All said that you must apply several times before you finally get it. Maybe its a process to try and weed out either those who don't need it or just to reduce the number of people on it, or could be the government just would rather waste money causing chaos in the world then helping the people in it. Keep applying!

Yea a lot of people say you have to appeal.

One thing though is your household income above the amount for SSI and say you didn't pay enough into SSDI? I don't know - just throwing that out there.

Honestly I know people (myself included) who had better luck doing everything on our own without a lawyer - I was approved in two months on the first try & the people I know who did it by themselves also were approved on the first try. The thing is this - the lawyers get a percentage of your back payment and the longer it goes on (with more appeals etc) the more money they get paid in the end because your back payment is higher - it goes from when you originally applied... not saying they didn't do their job right, I just always wonder..

My friend got denied alot and she fought for 3 years. She finally won and they had to pay her back tons of money for all of those years and she got money for her kids back pay.Keep trying. I think they say no the first time because they think people will just give up. hope it works out sooner rather than later. Oh, and they had to pay her back for all of those hospital bills she had during the 3 yrs

so sorry hun l know it feels like the end but its not get back in touch with your lawyer and keep phoning everyday to leave a message if he's rubbish don't be scared to change either. As the others have said you need to appeal now don't give up you need to keep trying until you win.

The thing is, I can't wait those three years to get on ssdi. I only have a year of living on public assistance. If get a job I could lose the housing I have due to not paying rent. Is lose my public assistance if I got a job and its really hard to get back on. I'm so lost. And whoever said that people abuse the system, you are damn right! I was in a homeless shelter before I got my apt. I know most of the people who got out and into apts turned back to drugs and drinking! I just want to learn how to live then get off the disability! It's so unfair!

First off, I am so sorry!! The same thing happens here in Canada, most folks are rejected 2 or 3 times before they get disability. I suggest you get a lawyer that specializes in disability law. The only charge you if they win your case, and will take their payment out of your winnings.

Don't give up!! That is what the government hopes you do.

i agree with auntfeather- try allsup thats who is handling my case right now, i only need temporary disability while i try to get right on my meds and my brain balanced out- they are really helpful and very nice. good luck friend i hope it get better for you!
