Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

The actuality is that 2 people with the same Mental Mood Disorder (or very similar ones) don't work in a relationship because you can't be a Support System for each other. If you're having Episodes of Depression at the same time...well with BiPolar you know that you can barely get up and take care of yourself when depressed, adding another depressed person to the mix will feel impossible and most likely add to your stress, anxiety, depression. If you think into the future, should you date, then get married, then have kids....who supports the family when a bad Depression episode causes a job loss, or inability to get a job? Who takes care of the kids when you're both in a Severe Depressed state? Who takes care of the household, finances, etc.?
These are the kinds of questions you should be asking yourself and thinking about when deciding if dating this person is a good idea. BiPolar Disorder is not curable, its a life time disease that affects every day of your life, all you can do is try and manage it. UniPolar Depression is generally a little easier to get a grip on and manage, if the patient does the work to manage it, but it doesn't just go away and not come back.
You have weigh all the Pro's and Con's, think about the hard questions and make a decision based on the facts you know and the feelings you have.
Take care,
kat
Being Bipolar is difficult enough. Hope you find the answers for you. All the best to you, sincerely.
He was typical, but I think had his own issues...anyway...being in a relationship that is sick is easy when we feel alone, and tend to look the other way. You Have Seen A Red Flag...this is not a warning, Red means Stop....your choice to continue on, just prepare yourself for what ""could"" be a very challenging and painful outcome.
Best of luck on your journey. ml
I'm glad that you found us!!....
We have had a few people on here over the years who have been in relationships.... even marriages with a partner who is also bipolar and they have worked however they have had their struggles that may be harder then other relationships
I think it's important for a partner to be supportive however NOT to become a caregiver as it will then change the relationship
I believe that while being supportive to one another you both have to seek outside support as well work personally with your health professionals.....
If it's what you both want I hope that it will work for you..... Big hug.....xo
Welcome to DS,
I think there is a lot of good advice above...i can't think of anything to add that hasn't been said already...
I think a relationship is a good thing to explore with your eyes open. Supporting each other in wellness would be the goal....having a " Wellness Recovery Action Plan" would be critical ( Google it)....
Glad you made it here come back and enjoy a good community...
