Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Hey all, so i've found myself in a new situation and don't know how to approach it. In the past, I've dated many guys with whom i've never saw a future, so i never mentionned i was bi polar. I'm now seeing a guy who i see a future with. He's great and sweet and we have so much in common with. I have already mentionned i was bipolar as i felt it was important to let him know. Here's the kicker, his ex, with whom we dated for 4 years had severe, untreated depression and it ultimately killed their relationship. So he's happy i see a mental health worker twice a month, that i have a great support system and that i'm medicated. But he's still nervous, and to be frank so am i. I don't want to scare him off. I know people say if he leave i'm better off, but he's a keeper. He's so great and i haven't found someone who makes me this happy ever. So now i'm scared to mentionned when i'm having a bad day to him. I mean i usually am very introspective when it comes to the depression part as in, but i don't know if i completely keep this from him or not.
Any advice?

Which explains the mysterious fevers and my extra fatigue. I'm so glad I pushed for answers.

Due to my increased paranoia, anxiety, and a panic attack over the weekend, my psychiatrist has put me back in a full dose of Zyprexa until further notice. Every time I think I'm getting ahead something happens and it's back to square one. I knew he was gonna do this but I can't help feeling disappointed. It is what it is.

I'm separating from a marriage from someone who HATED my 'mental health treatments' and I'm finally starting to feel better about myself. Lonely and don't know if the future holds any relationship prospects except for the cats I'm looking to adopt....but my anxiety has lifted tremendously.
I have spent a lot of my life robbing myself of relationship happiness because I am worried about all the bad things that could happen. Well where has that got me? Nowhere.
Being a bipolar person makes you valuable, it gives you unique perspective on the world, emotions, and moods that healthy people simply will not get. That makes you wort something! There are drawbacks to being bipolar but that doesn't mean we should deprive ourselves of things like relationships, we're perfectly capable of being bipolar and having a relationship. It's just a question of whether the other person in the relationship has a broad enough view of humanity to understand and put up with our condition during the trying times.
If he appreciates that you seek treatment for your disorder that should be a great first step to a healthy relationship. I would keep the conversation about it as open as possible, if it scares him away then it's better you scared him away sooner than later, like after you have kids or get more invested in the relationship.
If this is a new guy I wouldn't share a lot about yourself medically..... Any more then you would share about any other medical condition with someone new
I would personally take some time before oversharing if it were me......Just because a person with bipolar has a bad day doesn't make that day about bipolar if that makes sense
It's really nice you've met someone special..... Big hug.....xo
I am glad you have met someone whom you see a future with and are excited about! It might be hard at first to be able to share all parts of you, but know that it's worth it in the end when you are able to walk through all of life with him, not just the good parts (it's usually through the harder parts that growth and closeness happens).
Good luck!
