Had shot of cortisone in knee by my orthopedic surgeon today.
Hope that does not have an effect on my bipolar issues.
Next step if not feeling well in 2 weeks is a shot of Synvisc well three shots given once a week if in two weeks I do not feel better having had the cortisone shot.
Synvisc is injected directly into the knee joint to restore the cushioning and lubricating properties of normal joint fluid. Synvisc injections are approved for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee in those who have failed to respond to more conservative therapy.
Surgeon was pleased with weight loss and I think that is one of the reasons he is even considering Synvisc. My insurance covers it at a $35 dollar copay since I've med my insurance deductible already. These shots are real expensive so I am thankful my insurance covers them as some do not.
I'm just a bit leery of having something injected into me that is not something normally in my body that is made by my body and is artificial.
Anyone every heard of this drug? Synvisc or had it injected into their joint?
My knee hurts pretty bad even after the cortisone it burns. Watching him with that long needle giving me the shot was cool though. LOL

I had surgery back in December now it hurts again. *sigh* Thanks for the info though much appreciated. :)

I had a cortisone shot the other week on my right shoulder by the rheumatologist. I asked if it would affect my bipolar disorder like the prednisone they had been giving me. He said the cortisone would stay in the joint, that it's not systemic like taking a pill. Unfortunately the shot failed...MRI on my shoulder this Saturday :(
