Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

This is my first discussion post since I have been back on Daily Strength. I have been gone for a few years. So long that i forgot my old user name and password, so I had to make a new account. lol.
Anywho.....
I have been through a lot of psychological therapy both for Bipolar and PTSD. 10+ years. I have been taught a lot of coping skills for both disorders, however I do not personally know of any Bipolar individuals who have taken the more homeopathic/therapeutic route with bipolar management. I have personally made the choice to manage my Bipolar without medication due to the way that I react to the side effects of the medications. I am one of those people who if there is a side effect to be experienced.... I will experience it. lol. I have been medication free for over 3 years now, although I have made the decision to go back on my Kolonapin (not sure if i spelled that right) for my anxiety for the time being because my anxiety is what I seem to struggle the most with.
I will admit that the no meds path is a difficult one, but I feel that for me there are more pros than cons.
Please understand that I DO NOT go around promoting the no meds path, nor do I feel that I am any better or worse than anyone else for my choice. To each their own and no two people are the same.
I am just curious if there is anyone else out there that takes or has taken this route? I have yet to meet another with Bipolar who has done so.

Mom and I have errands to run this morning. She said we can get sushi for lunch though. I go back to work today. What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Quick, before the evil MONday gets here! Let's climb those mountains, dance in the meadows, dip our feet in the ocean....Okay, so most of us won't be doing any of That. Sadly. But today can still be a great day!The area behind our back fence is on an incline, with less than two feet on even ground at the top. I don't balance well enough for the incline, but our mower guy mows that...

celebrities but my foundation has always been meds. That might be due to my being BPI but that's what works for me.
Thank you for your feedback.
It's not unheard of....some people just have problems with the meds. Like you said, we are all different. I have learned how important it is (for me personally) to stay connected with long term mental health team and therapy and support groups. It's important for my stability. I'm getting more active with some groups and hope to be brave enough to be open about my diagnosis.
Welcome back! I hope everything goes well for you.
I believe that Banshee also manages her illness without meds so perhaps you could contact her?
Welcome back! Do you remember even part of your former name? Maybe some of us will remember you!
I have not gone med-free since I was first diagnosed/medicated. My combo does the trick and I've learned to manage the side effects too.
Pharmaceuticals are just 1/5 of the treatment that keeps me healthy. Adequate proper sleep, healthy diet, vigorous exercise, and head stuff (meditation, counseling, etc.) are equally as important as the pills.
I'm interested to hear more about your med-free journey!
I think a number of us have tried various other things - I certainly tried many things before my diagnosis. The only thing that has made a dent in my bipolar is meds.
