All BP does is cause an improper amount of chemicals which trigger certain emotions to release, giving the over inflation of whatever emotions.. everything stays the same in the body. With Alzheimer's, brains cells physically decay.

A lot of people from 'good' (read wealthy) families were committed eventually. It couldn't have been that bad. Besides, what are you imagining? (#3) Someone putting in an IV for hydration, and Seroquel to get sleep? Isn't that a medical intervention?

Oh, and the disease does eat away at the brain slowly. (#1) You just don't see it without an MRI. I happen to go to MRI conferences, and I see these images of unmedicated depressed brains. There is even proof now that cognitive skills are being affected in bipolar, which were previously thought spared.

The simple point is that the disease, left unchecked, CAN kill you. It won't kill everyone, but it CAN kill some.

You guys are inventing all kinds of tortured logic to avoid saying yes to this question. Why? Discounting suicide? Why? Is that not a tangible death? Do you not find the call compelling? And if having mania fry your brain and body doesn't qualify, then what would? How does a high fever kill? Diphtheria? Modern medicine can save you (usually), but if left unchecked, it kills a lot of people through dehydration.

I said that I have heard of people that can manage without them. I mean there was a guest on bipolar radio that was on the show and said he has been med free for 2 years and has been very happy.. So it can be done. I mean more the power to him..

I am not medfree I need soething to control my emotions I mean it seems to be working because I am not blowing this out of proportion.
