Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Life..YES
I thnk itsmore of a "management " thing, not a getting healed thing.
I understood completely the concept of "levels of consciousness" and "spiral dynamics" but fail to see how they might "CURE" or "HEAL" bipolar disorder.
He refers every concept he has to "PSYCHOSIS" not "BIPOLAR DISORDER" and although psycosis can be part of bipolar disorder it is not by a long shot the ONLY facet of it.
I firmly believe that levels of consciousness, spiral dynamics, living in the present moment and "just being" can all contribute to helping us deal WITH BP, but it cannot CURE BP. They can help you be more aware of yourself and others but cannot prevent you completely from suffering in a state of hypo mania, mania, depression, or dysphoria.
I would say that you would be safe to learn more about the spiritual levels of consciousness and spiral dynamics along with living in the present moment. All those things have helped me greatly, especially through meditation and awareness, however, I think it very unsafe to consider that you can be cured of BP through these vehicles of practice. xo
I think you have to consider all the possibilities in what he says and realize that some of it is very powerful and helpful in how it can "help" us in this disorder but it is NOT a cure. Doing the things he speaks of and caring for yourself in other ways with exercise, meditation, supplements, eating well, taking meds etc. can all contribute to a healthier, more stable you and help you be your best self in this life.
Is it at all possible to get by on meditation, exercise, omega3 supplements, and therapy... maybe some art and other expression..
but no meds?
Like anything else, do some research of information from non-biased sources, and you'll find out the truth about it.
As far as my views on the curability of BP, I agree with d.d. also. There are always a rare few unexplainable "medical miracles".....that medicals call "spontanious remission"....where people suddenly recover unexplainably from some illness, but for the most part, if you truly have BP, you have it for life. If someone seems to be "cured" by some treatment like this, from any illness like BP which is expected to remain indefinitely, I would suspect that the diagnosis was not correct, or accurate, to begin with. (in contrast, schizophrenia and depression both, can sometimes have a single, or a few episodes, then disappear completely, but that is an expected finding.)
1) Your risk of suicide , or death from risky behavior, is reduced significantly
2) You will still have depressive and/or manic episodes, but less frequently and less severe.
3) You and your friends, and others around you, will be happier and safer overall.
Only you can decide. None of us "like" taking meds, but we know the alternative from years of dealing with it, and it just isnt an option for me.....xo
damn... damn. damn. damn.
Then I may be doomed.
Thanks for the comments though... insightful.
