Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
then you have at least one proper diagnoses you can use and carry with you wherever you go!
talk with your nurse mush... surely she has some levity in all this and can help you get help... even if it trying meds given to you by your GP
I went private for a 2nd opinion... guy was a BP specilaist....but this was in NZ... not sure how many there are here? it cost me about 320 for 90 mins... a whole hell of a lot of money but invaluable bcs BP was the agreed dx
you know if you need and ap
and you get times where you are down in the dumps depressed, and times when you can't seem to channel the amount of energy you have into anything that can support your lifestyle in a healthy way.
and your life.
not , "and."
this has gone on for about 2 years now.
its just so ridiculous all i want is to be able to sit my exams knowing i wont be so depressed i dont have the energy to turn up or so hyped up i can't even sit still for an hour.
it seems that because im searching for a dx that i don't need one. just because people haven't heard of bipolar before they were dx'd it doesnt mean i am less ill or need meds less :/
thanks ruby x
This makes your situation more understandable. Many beepers self medicate. I'm glad you are still here.
I'm not in the UK so I don't know what resources are available to you. Just hang on I"m sure some one from the UK will coin in soon I know there are members.
let me see if I can rustle some one up.
i just wrote a whole paragraph and it got deleted.
i cant even remember what i wrote about but it was along the lines of
it's like ruby said - a post code lottery .
i cant request doctors, i cant just turn up and demand an assessment they take weeks to process appts and even when appts do get through you only see a dr for 40 minutes.
they see mental illness as very highly thresholded in my area anyway, and so unless you are literally swinging off the lampshades you are dismissed to daily life. even if that daily life consists of mood shifts to the moon and back.
the problem when i see a dr is that i am never swinging off a lampshade by the time the appt comes round i am feeling stable again. i know i have in the past swung from rooftops, and i know i will in the future. my little adventure the other night scared the living shit out of me when i came back to earth a little. could've been murdered for bloody hells sake.
but then theres people in college who live in a different area of wales
who have a different team all together. and they've got help for NOTHING coming out of their ears. a girl can go to her dr say shes depressed, get a full psych team up behind her. not me however.
i know some people are under the impression that the dr's here have labelled me as BPD. but i know this is not the case otherwise they would have brought it up and treated it. i know this area IRONICALLY has actually got DECENT BPD treatment facilities like group therapy, DBT etc.
its a shame i havent been offered any support. because im really heading to a really fucked up little mind space. x
