Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Be on meds that work to keep you sane and gain weight , while your self esteem plummets down the drain, because of it, or accept the weight gain, and your new sexy curves and make the most of it???
For me it is health related issues...Cholesterol, BP, going up....AND I EXERCISE!!!! I am on Lithium and Effexor ER...I am So stable on these drugs, but gaining weight....so, guess what i did?
I asked my doc to get me off both of them.....well, it has been hard, and I am back in both, in addition to the drugs I need to be on to loose weight.....
Tegretol, and Topomax as mood stabilizers.....My antidepressant dose is cut in half, which I am happy about....
I am getting there.... Haven't lost any weight yet... I dont care. I am just trying to jet stable on my new meds, eat healthy again, work out, and get back to a regular routine....Right now my life has been turned upside down, stressors with mom almost dying, so I know I wont lose any weight...as a matter of fact, gained 3 pounds!
Take a look at when you eat, and why....for me it is always when I am alone, at night.....I binge eat.....before I go to bed.....Don't eat much during the day, just right before bedtime....yah!
Who cares about the weight as long as you are stable? Anyone who judges me by my waist size is not someone I want to know anyways...so superficial and vain....there are bigger fish to fry in life.
I don't think that many of us are going to this post for just vanity reasons. Many of us have underlying medical conditions that need to be managed, and the extra weight just makes these conditions worse.
On Seroquel, I became borderline diabetic, had dangerously high cholesterol and erratic blood pressure.
After coming off of it, a year later, all these conditions are normal.
Last Friday I started using Seroquel again...prn but am needing it nightly. My appetite is through the roof. I'm trying to stay in control now that I realize its the Seroquel f-ing with my metabolism. I might need an AP for a while again and just need to deal with this.
So, if one of my meds starts making me gain weight like crazy and causes pre-diabetes, doc and I are switching me. My top concern at this point is the unrelenting fatigue I have daily.
For two weeks I am taking one to two naps a day. I feel like my body isn't my own. I am hypothyroid. So lithium could be screwing it up, though all my checks so far have been normal. The upshot is, I want my life back and that includes being in the best shape of my life physically and mentally.
