Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
AD's make me gain TONS of weight, thank god I'm not on any of those anymore. Lithium doesn't cause me to gain much weight but I think Abilify is causing me to gain weight (more than I'd like to put up with). I know that I need to start exercising, if only I LIKED exercising!
There's a game for the WII called "Just Dance" and I think I'm going to get it to get me moving. AND, I need to start walking with my dog, if only for a little bit. As of now - I do NOTHING. I feel like a sloth.
I'm currently on Lupron for endometriosis and the doctor and nurse both warned me that I was going to gain weight - and they were right. I'll be coming off the lupron within the next few months and I'm hoping just that alone will help shed some of these pounds.
*sigh*
I lost around 35 lbs in 6ish weeks.
But this is not nearly as bad as the withdrawal/side effects I had - severe GI reaction on Lexapro/Celexa (?) brain zaps getting off SSRI's and dosage changes (~10 every minute...)
But damn it I need them :(
I remember being on Paxil years ago and I gained 14 lbs in a little over 2 weeks. Pdoc took me off it immediately.
i heard depokate is the one med that you gain massive amounts of weight with no matter what.
I've noticed that each time my AD(amoxapine) is increased, my appetite increases with it....it's like all I can think about is how hungry I feel. I have to really keep a check on it. I try to munch on the veggies and fruits even though my mind is drooling over a big juicy burger and fries!! lol
I have this great book, called "The Bipolar Diet" which proposes that as beepers in order to maintain our stability and weight, we need to reconfigure our diets.
I have lost some of the weight using this book, plus exercising when I can.
I was then re-diagnosed as Bipolar II and went on new meds. Through diet and exercise I lost the weight. He briefly put me on Remeron because no other ADs were helping with the depressive episodes. That stuff made me so hungry I felt like I had a tapeworm. I was running out for shakes and fries at 1 am. He took me off of that before I could gain any significant amount of weight. I am on Seroquel XR now and it's not changing my weight or appetite, thankfully.
