I am so frustrated dealing with all the symptoms of depression and mania occurring together. Medications not right yet. I want to feel healthy and how I use to be. I do positive things but see no glory. Disappointed...how long will it take for the Zyprexa to start working at a therapeutic level? Increased from 10 mg( on this 4 days) then increased to 15 mg 3 days ago.

Hang on I promise it will get better...(((hugs))))

I don't know your specific circumstance but for me I chose to treat mania since it was so devastating. Even using lithium, which took mania away, I was still mildly depressed. I accepted that since I've never been arrested or hospitalized while depressed as I have been in mania. For two cases of serious depression I used effexor and it worked fine except for stopping it. That's another hell to go through and not quite worth it. So can you decide to focus on one symptom at a time? To me trying to treat both high and low simultaneously will be a losing course of action

We all get stuck in that rut sometimes. Just remember it doesn't last forever

This too shall pass. I am also depressed and bi-polar. Some days are definitely better than others but when I get into my ruts, I go to a quiet place alone, work on my breathing techniques and continue to tell myself that shortly, I will feel better. Know that even though you might feel it, you are definitely not alone.

each person is different and it may take a while to find the right meds to give you balance in your disease. good luck with your search for the right combination of meds, therapy, diet, music, exercise, reading etc,,, and i wish you ease along the way, hugs.

The dr is focusing on the mania with Zyprexa. Just increased to 15 mg daily and on it 4 days now. How long until my mind starts calming down and stops racing thoughts? Still on Zoloft almost 3 weeks of this and no changes in mood. Have xanax to help. Do you think I will get better? What medication helps you? Thank you for helping me.

I was diagnosed with BP, with all the fun stuff that goes with it :(, about 7 years ago. I have had so many different "cocktails", of all types of medications, that it seemed like a blur 24/7. About 2 weeks ago I suffered a big breakdown and ended up in the Psych facility. They worked with me and got me on the right medications, and I haven't felt better since I was diagnosed. I hope that you find what medications work for you, so you can feel you are living the way you want to. Just hang in there. I hope the best for you.

Thank you all for the replies. Today my psychiatrist is weaning me off Zoloft as he said that it doesn't work with the Zyprexa. What do you think? On Zyprexa 1 month that my primary dr prescribed..

I'm not sure if this helps, but... They misdiagnosed me with depression and gave me anti-depressant sertraline. This sent me off the scale with mania. They had to take me off sertraline slowly and put me on quetiapine, which was a hard couple of months but has kept me happy (?) and stable for 4 years.

Hi beachshore, sorry to hear that the medication that you are taking took a while to take effect. But for all that's worth, it might be good to keep trying any medication that might help you to feel better. Hang in there and take care. Praying for you and God Bless!
