I am new to this, my brother recently checked into a rehab facility where he has been diagnosed as unspecified BPD. They said they are still watching him as he is detoxing. He has just moved from detox to transition - he has seemed fine- kind of humbled and realizes he needs to stay there. However, today (day 5) he didn't want to speak to his wife, brothers or anyone in the family. He was allowed visitors for 1 hr a day and out of those 5 days there were 3 days of visits.... I'm not sure if this is a normal way of behaving, I'm scared maybe he wants to leave OR is he just transitioning or mad b/c someone didn't visit. I'm not sure, but he sounded off, not like he did the prior days. We are sopposed to be speaking/meeting with the doctors in 2-3 days- it's just all new to me and I was hoping that I could find out what to expect. or if this is just kind of expected behavior. any info would be greatly appreciated. I thought i would feel less anxiety knowing he was there, but I still feel it. I hope he takes the info and tools to learn to help him cope once his stay is complete. THx for listening. XO

Due to my increased paranoia, anxiety, and a panic attack over the weekend, my psychiatrist has put me back in a full dose of Zyprexa until further notice. Every time I think I'm getting ahead something happens and it's back to square one. I knew he was gonna do this but I can't help feeling disappointed. It is what it is.

I think it would be very hard to diagnose him with Bipolar or any other mental illness while he's actively using or detoxing as there would be so many signs and symptoms overlapping one another... He could be well be bipolar and perhaps that's why he was using.. He was self medicating however from what I know usually this type of diagnosis isn't made until someone is clean and sober for a period of time
What ever is wrong though be it a mood disorder or addiction these are all illnesses that are treatable and it sounds like he's doing what he needs to in order to heal
Big hug for you and a blessing for you and your family...
