Bipolar 2 and Disability

Hi,
I was wondering if there are any Bipolar 2s who have been awarded Disability.

I have Major Depressive Disorder, and was also dx with Bipolar 2. My Psychiatrist says he will support my request for Social Security Disability based on the fact that with my memory issues, and the fact that I would not be able to be dependable considering my physical issues (Fibromyalgia, IBS,and blah, blah, blah). My request for benefits lists all my dx conditions, but my medical doctor seems unsympathetic so don't think she would commit to supporting my disability claim. That is why I think my mental illnesses will be my considerable issues.

If you want to go that route...hire an attorney give them all of your docs info and let them file the claim. You will probably be denied first go around. So, it's best to have an attorney from jump...they only get paid if you win your case. If you already have an attorney the can jump straight into appeal mode, it's faster. They get paid out of your first few checks...You may also be eligible for back pay depending on what the docs say.

Well, be aware that disability, particularly ssdi pays you shit. I think the average a month is like 600-700. If somehow you can survive on under 10,000 a year then go for it. I am not on ssdi but on disability that comes out of my pension fund and still only gives me half of my pay....which is 15.00 an hour. And that even sucks. But within 3 years my disability will be up and I will be forced to return to the workforce. And that is if they keep okaying me for benifits. I really do not know how any of you all survive on under 10,000 a year? However if you are married or something and your significant other brings in the bread winnings then maybe it is possibly feasible. Even at that meager pay soc. sec. gives you a hell of a time even accquiring benefits. Well...good luck to you whatever you decide!

If you choose to go for SSDI it would also bring you Medicare and a form of prescription drug coverage.

Allsup.com is a good outfit to with to start procedures for SSDI. I did with them 7 years ago and got it the first time. To my credit I had been off work a year and had 4 hospitalizations and a good pdoc . and paper work

Allsup will take you thru mounds of aerwork but then they are fight you case for you too so thats good.

If you have other income and are going to use SSDI as a supplement it is a good thing.
