I am bipolar 1, Dalton in reply #13, you described the experiences I have had over 20+ yrs diagnosed pretty well. Mania can be exhilarating, when it is not scary as hell. Afterwards, I am usually embarassed and often regretful of actions I chose while manic.

Bp1, rapid speech, energy full on, racing thoughts, little sleep...

possible to rapid cycle, so up/down in short space of time...many times in one day.

I too had a great difficulty in understanding mania and the difference between bipolar 1 and 2. Here on DS.com I grew to understand the differences and the whole hypomania effect.

Today I am grateful for the old posts, the new posts and the silly posts which have taught me how to talk to others in a semi-coherent style.

I asked dumb and stupid questions as well as some interesting ones also.

I have been diagnosed as bipolar 2. I usually lean toward depression. I've had 1 long episode of major depression and have come close to that a few other times. It scares the hell out of me. I don't think I've ever had a full manic episode. I've had periods where I didn't need sleep and was calling friends at 2 AM. I just went through a period where I felt like a yo yo I was going up and down so much. The meds I'm on now seem to be really helping. For the first time I feel stable.
