Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Being Bi-Polar is hard enough, but when my disorder is blamed for all my emotions, I am treated like all my feelings are the result of bi-polar and just dismissed.. or worse, people will try to convince me I do not know how to feel in any situation, so I am always wrong, and simply dismissed.
My Son got married a couple weeks ago, and at the reception my Husband and I were seated away from the honored tables and with the brides X co-workers, next to the D.J by the speakers, at the farthest right side table, with our backs to the couple about 4 tables away (note I suffer from migraines). Then we noticed my X Husband and his Family enjoy a honored table near the Groom, he has not even seen our Son in over 10 years, and 5 years prior, having no part in raising him. The Brides Mother has her own table with her Family and friends, next to them and the last honor table having my other Son, his wife, the bridesmaid and a few childhood friends.
I swear I did not intent tears to shoot from my eyes, but I got up to go in the bathroom, resisting the urge to leave, I tried to get the bridesmaid to help, nope, and a friend found my Son, and I saw my Son and his Brother the groom and his bride, She immediatly screamed at me telling me to just go sit down so they can be announced! I went back to find I was changed to one table over had a friend and my sister added, they were not happy with the situation, and felt the same as I, no one else is bi-polar, and we shared the pain, but it got worse...
The Mother of the bride stood and gave a long speech, thanked everyone including the dead, said great things about everyone, mentioned my X husband and his Family for comming so far, thanking them, and pleased to meet them, mentioned cancer survivors, introduced the sweet lady my Son donated stem cells to and saved, even her daughters cats, and left out my Husband and myself completely! not one word, she did not even look at us, nor acknowledge our presence. Then as the couple went around to everyone, the bride never came to us... nope she stayed at least 2 to 3 tables away at all times, as did her Mother. I had not met her Mother, and realised there was no interest in me, whew, was that my bi-polar disorder? and am I imagining being slighted, or was that the tone set for a relationship with the new Daughter in law? My Son thinks she likes me just fine? whats the matter? must be my bi-polar disorder? I have cried for weeks (that being bi-polar) as my depression spins to a serious low what do I do now?
I can't stop crying, and springing tears at the thought, and already feel the quicksand of depression sucking me down, lower and lower, grab a stick or throw me a rope, I am sinking.
Thanks
ALM

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I think if it were me I would do or say nothing about this.... It was their wedding day and as hurtful as the bride behaved she or they made the plans for that day and it really is all about them and it seems that your son sort of goes along to keep the peace
I would try and let it go and hopefully the next family function that you share will be a positive one..... Another hug and a blessing.....xo
Thanks so much!
are hurtful. We need to do our best to avoid and ignore those types of people. That's one reason why I don't disclose my diagnosis or treatment to anyone. I refuse to "play nice" with anyone who doesn't deserve it. Time is on your side so let time and your treatment do their work to bring you peace.
I do agree with Suncloud to process this on your own and not force your son to choose between his new wife and his Mother. Now That Would create issues with your new daughter in-law. As for Bride's family rude and ignorance is bliss, by being hurt over their rude behavior, you are giving them power over you...meaning in your head hurting you over and over again.
When my brother was married, 'I was not included in the family picture' why? I don't know, excitement of the day? I could project all kinds of scenarios, yet, the fact remained, I felt hurt and left out. Could I change the situation? No...therefore I accepted it, a process to work through for sure, but in time I did let it go~~
As for son's father, not in his life, do you 'know' for sure what type of relationship is between them? Just a gander if it's something new, my son who is 20 went ga ga over his father who never had Anything to do with him when he and I were having a very bad time...father has since gone back to being an "asshole" as my son refers to him....I tell him not to speak about his father like that because 'he is' a part of you, and if it weren't for him, I wouldn't have you....
Bashing father is like bashing son, and puts me into the mean resentful place I don't want to be in....Father made his choices, as I did, sometimes as bp'ers we can be super sensitive, in this case I think Rudeness surpasses sensitivity. Best, ml
Sorry all that happened and I hope your son understands that you felt completely overlooked...
I hope you can resolve this and regain your power. I'm selective about who knows about my diagnosis and I certainly don't want it broadcast to strangers...
There were several things here that sound like they were hurtful. I see you approached the bride, but have you had a talk with your son since? I know he says that she likes you just fine, but I wonder if it would help to talk to him about how hurt you were.
I also agree with Jan. This may have evolved into something more serious than hurt feelings. It more specifically may have triggered a depressive episode. Do you have a tdoc? I would talk to mine in this situation.
I had not even thought about being triggered! Thank You! you are some smart people! you are saving me! xo
