Being overweight frm meds.

I joined the obesity support group for some support and understanding at being so overweight. Today I wrote a post about how I felt which is not good at all and I was basically told to shut the f*#* up and be more positive. I guess it was too much to expect them to understand what it's like to be on a med that makes you gain 75lbs. I will stay around here from now own where I know I am loved and understood. Thanks for listening to me vent.

and just started a new med that will make me gain even more
so believe me i understand
just try to stay positive, and replace bad food choices with good ones
and exercise when you can

I'm sorry you had to deal with those people. They just do not understand how meds can effect your weight gain....belonging to the BP group will help you feel like you are not alone....

Do some research on taking metformin with antipsychotics if that is the type of med that is making you gain weight.

there are some posts on here by dr Orange and lou2 and i think me somewhere or other..

metformin, which is a medication for diabeties, can counterbalance the weight gain from antipsychotics. Also, antipsychotics can cause diabeties... so preventative to.

Wow.. what a response from an obesity support group.. what is their mantra.. ignore the problem and it will go away... of course discussing the emotions that are related to weight gain is a legitimate post.. being positive is sometimes really hard when the scale doesn't change no matter how much you diet and exercise... anyhow.. like others say vent here... stomp your foot... shout out if you need to... damn weight gain.. and how meds suck... we're all in the same lifeboat I'm afraid and hopefully someone will rescue us from this fate... a miracle drug perhaps...((hugs))

maybe theyre jealous coz theyre obese because they cant control their eating, and you have a legitimate reason?

There is a BIG difference between someone keeping their mouths shut...and having to take meds that CAUSE weight gain

Just to make you understand ,you are not alone,on Lithium,I gained over 80 Lbs in 3 months

I can't believe that people would respond in that way...I always thought the purpose behind a support group was to be supportive! Anyways you need not pay them any heed. It is definitely difficult when you gain weight on the meds. Its like you have to choose between your physical health/appearance and your mental health...not fair at all. One thing that I did was to start eating 6 mini meals a day of about 300 cal...that helped me to lose a bit. And of course the exercising part which can be really hard sometimes but I always feel better when I do it.

Pp dont and dont want to understand BPism. So they cant grasp weight gain as a characyeristic " " either. The weight gain is awful I agree bitch all you want here.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that...I un-joined a lot of other groups because they did not see things from my beeper point of view and I was attacked for my views....that's why I stay here where I am understood...normies can really suck sometimes!

Seroquel put a good 75 on me (at last look) as well. I do not fit most of my clothes anymore, I understand where you are coming from. Then...like an extra slap in the face I went to put on my winter jacket yesterday and....It is too small! I should have thought of that at the beginning of the month when we budgeted...lol

When I started on Seroquel about 6 months ago, I put on nearly 40 lbs and counting.

im sorry they were mean to you! i looked and saw what they wrote, it was very rude! you just wanted to vent and were having a bad day, don't let those people get to you though. they are the kind of people who have no feelings for others and don't understand anyone other then themselves. i think you have a right to have a bad day! vent away hun!

does anyone else gain weight while on a low cal diet (100 -1500)/day and one hour exercise/day on meds? my doc keeps telling me it has to be that i'm eating too much. am so annoyed now tht my pdoc is agreeing with him. it is so frustrating. i am now taking three different diet pills and using patches so that i will not gain weight. i told them it was a side effect i was not willing to tolerate. why do they not listen!

Most of our meds cause weight gain and it sucks! I keep coming off my meds and losing a little bit but it doesnt work in the long run! I'm sorry you got such a bad response, you deserved better! x
