there's a really great CBT book out there called '10 days to self esteem' by dr. burns. its really changed my thought process. see most depressed people have distorted thoughts and this book helps you recognize the distortions. anyways, its helped me fight the negative lies in my head. also you always have to think of people who have it worse off than you --child soldiers, tree-man, deaf/blind,etc. i mean it just helps you count your blessings, evn if they are small. despite all my problems i just am happy about the little things i have going for me. i'm sure you have some, maybe you just overlook them?

Yes, you're right, I do have a number of things to be thankful for in comparison to many. And sometimes I get down on myself for being so self-pitying. I can even recognize when my thoughts are becoming distorted, it's just difficult to control my thoughts at times. I will see if I can find that book - and Thanks... Hugs!!

10 Days to Self Esteem is an excellent book. You should certainly check it out. He also wrote another excellent book called " the New Mood Therapy." The key to thinking positive is to reframe your negative thoughts when they come. CBT therapy is really good at helping you to reframe your negative thoughts. Congrats on wanting to change your habitual way of thinking!

Im ready to start...
