At Christmas I got very ill and took my max dose of seroquel and sleeping meds but was unable to sleep. I have not been sleepy all day and went to the doctor and they diagnosed me with a bacterial infection. They gave me something for it but how long will I have to not be able to sleep etc... I guess my question for you all is have you ever had any other health related issues trigger mania and do you think if I wait it out and let the medication for the bacterial infection to work will it reverse my symptoms. Thank You

I'm not sure the bacterial infection it's self will cause mania.

Maybe the meds given to you to treat the infection?

You probably should call your Pharmacist and get a consult on if the meds you take conflict with the medication for ythe bacterial infection.

There can be side effects from psych meds that mix with side effects from meds to treat other illnesses. I've had that happen before, but it was very short term.

biaxin makes me manic as hell. I had some infection years ago and was put on it. man my family wanted to tie me up ad gag me. one night I got my friend to do a 3am drive with me to a tourist site 3 hrs away during that time lol

the pdoc told me it is a common reaction for bipolars to that antibiotic I assume any med or medical issue would have the potential for changing our moods or interfering with the effectiveness of the bp meds. they changed my antibiotic so I could finish the treatment can they do that for you?

I've had a med trigger mania in me, but never an illness, that I can remember.

Maybe a call to your Pdoc would be a good idea, too.

Well, I've had illness trigger depression before from feeling crappy but not mania. I suppose it's not impossible? Probably should call your pdoc just in case! Feel better soon Nick!

cold medicine jacks me up all on its own.

but i do believe any change at all can be a trigger, even suffering a common cold.
