Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Once you are on the right meds, dosing amounts, yes..it gets better. ((hugs))
Things do and will get better. Just be patient and give it time......xo
Have they taught you any cognitive behavioral or dialectical behavioral therapy skills? There are a few good books and workbooks out there. I have one I've been working through called Thoughts and Feelings, Change Your Mood, Change Your Life. CBT and DBT skills have helped me more than any of the drugs I've tried.
Also, find a support group. This internet one is good, but try to find one in the real world. A lot of what you're going through normal people just won't understand. Sorry if that's discouraging, but the up side of it is that there are probably support groups in your area where you can get better support than what you're getting from your mom. I can't believe she told you that it won't ever get better!
You can take classes later, in a better frame of mind. Right now focus on getting yourself functioning better; you can do it!
There is a great deal of scope for improvement in the mental health of Bipolar patients. If you'd suggested that to me a few years ago, I'd have spat at you - I WAS so very sick and there seemed no prospect of any forward progress. But with patience and a dogged determination to find the best psychiatrist and psychologist I could I HAVE made many many gains. We have to be terriby patient about medication - it can take a long time to get the right meds mix - but it is worth the patience and the struggle.
You may be able to suggest to your Mum that she could educate herself about your illness and the prospects of recovery but one thing I have learned is that we can't make other people do what we want - even if it is the right thing.
But if you seek therapy, you can learn about assertiveness and boundaries. Learning those skills will be one of the best lifelone gifts you can get for yourself. This will help you with your relationship with your Mum and everyone else you come across in your life.
Give your body time to heal and rest it needs it that's why you're so sleepy and you're emotionally vulnerable so negatives will hurt and hurt deeply it doesn't mean they are true just that they hurt so try to push the pain away its not true.
You will get through this but its baby steps so be patient but you will feel much better.
