Hi there,
I was curious if anyone else have these problems and how you deal with them. I have been known to self-medicate in the past for my moods. I find if I do this it helps with anger, sadness, anxiety, when I'm too too up, help sometimes with psychosis, just in general numbing so I have a predictable state. I'm sure I'm not the only one that does this. It works short-term but causes havoc in the long-run I know this. My pdoc knows this. If I don't do this once a week I tend to find myself hearing voices, drastic mood changes, and just pissed all the time. I try and replace these things with reading, exercising, video games, anything I can do except use any kind of substance to help stabilize. Now that I haven't been taking much for substances and trying not to use anything, I'm constantly pissed, anxious, significant mood swings, and about to snap at any second. I try to stay alone cause I feel like anyone(even loved ones) will set me off and I'm going to start yelling, smashing things, etc. Could this be something lacking in my meds? Or just short-term problems? I've gone without substances for a couple months at a time in the past before and the problems never got better. This is maybe kind of confusing, but maybe someone can relate, or give some advice/experiences. Thanks!

I've been on high dose prednisone for pneumonia, and now I am slowly weaning. But lots of symptoms I don't like having, plus overeating has put at least 10 lbs on me. The food is "loud" as the GLP-1 users refer to it.Also pressured speech. Which comes out in my posts. Sorry I posted so much. I just need an outlet for my agitated and irritable brain. Just scroll on by my posts, if they are too...
Rage has always been a big part of my bipolar manifestations .
Medications and therapy help.
I don't know the answer other than self medication as you have found doesn't really work. It might be a med tweak (btw some meds can make you angry all the time, including some anti-psychotics for some people), change or adding more meds may bring you more peace.
Or you may find the standard anger management type approaches work. You might look in on the anger manangement board on DS and see if there is anything that seems helpful there.;
Anger can be from a lot of things. It is important to figure out where it is coming from. A lot of anger can be from frustration.
Better we see the root of our anger for what it is and deal with it rationally as it presents itself. Unbridled expression as you describe, Dalton, is simply not acceptable in a civilized world. It creates a vicious cycle, within and without...compounded by both further anger coupled with remorse.
Hope this helps. I used to be quite passionate in my rages as a child myself. To the point I would be rolled up in a carpet and placed in the bathtub with the shower turned on to cool me down.
Things can mellow if you can ind the will to deal. Best of luck.
I have found a good tdoc is priceless. Don't settle for someone you don't feel is helping you or that you don't "click" with. This has be my experience over many years of trial and error.
DBT helped, getting off "Wellbutrin" helped, getting more sleep helped and taking some time out really helped.
I too am impressed that you are wanting to change!
