Ambien, insomnia

I have trouble sleeping almost every single night. Finally I asked my psychiatrist for a sleeping aid. He prescribed me ambien. Ever since I started taking ambien, I have become an insomniac... Almost. I get to sleep at 3,4,5:00 in the morning but then I sleep and wake up in the middle of the day. I took it at 8:00 tonight and it's 1:40 now, I'm afraid I won't get to bed at 4:00 again. I need to go through our my day tomorrow, I have things to do. Has anyone ever taken ambien and experienced this?

Ambien never helped me, but it was great at making my insomnia MUCH worse. The only sleep med that helps me some is Sonata and it has very little or no hangover. For some like us sleeping pills can cause or make worse insomnia, but it's not common. I remember taking that crap hoping for sleep, which at that time I got so little of and having NO thoughts that it might cause insomnia whatsoever, then getting less if not 0 sleep. 30 months of chronic insomnia - yuck. They all work a bit differently. Good luck grenadine, I hope that you get your sleep together soon.

I take 300 of trazadone and go to sleep an hour later but am sleeping all my off hours away

Ambien worked great for me. Have you tried Ambien CR? It is time released and may work better. Seroquel helps with sleep but can cause weight gain. I would call my pdoc if I were you and see if he can prescribe something else.

Ambien is my saviour. I would be up for days without it.
Now I take ambien to get me to sleep and also a trazadone to help me stay asleep.

I tried Lunesta, didn't work at all. Ambien CR never would put me to sleep.

Try some Melatonin to help you get to sleep the combination works well for me.

Wow, ambien can actually make it worse.... That is definitely what's happening to me. I'm not taking that tonight. I'll have to talk to my doctor about a new one, thanks for your suggestions! Happy new year!!!!!

that med to me sucks..take a 1mg xanax prn then you be good to go!!!!

When I was on Ambien I slept like a puppy. It was great.
Now I'm on trazadone and I don't get to sleep until 4 or 5. It's awful. I'm making and appt. w/my doc today. I can't take this anymore.
