Wow. I'm so sorry. Suicide is a hard topic for me. I can identify with the person who passed away, but I always feel so awful they had to go through what led them to it. And it has to be a nightmare for the survivors. I hope they all find peace. Huge hugs.

I hope that your friend will get her son into therapy pretty much right away..... her son is at such an impressionable age getting into puberty with hormones raging along with the terrible pain he's bound to be feeling

Sadly when there is one suicide in a family it can become an acceptable thing for other members of the family as a way to deal with the things in life that they don't want to have happen


Also a way to 'join that person' because they miss him/her

If people knew what they left behind I know that they would never do it..... A tragic event....

Thanks, again, for the caring replies to my post. I'm just so upset that my friend left his 12 y.o. son by killing himself. When I was really suicidal, my son was at a young age and it would have devastated him. He was my reason for never attempting suicide. I would have never been that selfish to actually hurt myself physically because of my son. I did hurt myself emotionally/mentally at times, though. I also had periods of mania where I drank too much and was promiscuous and picked up strangers, which I know was hurtful physically and dangerous behavior. I would seek help immediately and see my pdoc when in these states. I guess I was lucky to have had the insight to seek help instead of give in to the suicidal feelings.

Irishwriter, I retract my sentence about never being that "selfish" to commit suicide because of my son. I've been very fortunate that my suicidal thoughts/ideations have not run as deep as others. The closest I got to suicide was driving into my garage, closing the garage door, and sitting inside my running car for a matter of minutes. I don't know how or why I turned my car off and didn't complete the act...I was just very fortunate. There was also a time when I was about 17 or 18 years old and I took a handful of Advil before bed and hoped that I wouldn't wake up. I did wake up, however, with no consequences to my actions. I've never told anyone of that "attempt".
So, I don't really think that suicide is selfish. I'm sorry that I offended you by my words that I now retract from my comment.
