im not an alcoholic by no means but today at my college we had these speakers come for substance abuse awareness day and it was so weird but i completely identified myself with this one lady. so after the thing was finished i went outside with a friend and then we went our seperates and i saw the woman talking with the guy that was also a speaker
so i went up to her to talk to her, so i told her that im not an alcoholic but i drink socially and when i do drink i dont stop until i pass out or there's no more booze...i dont go out of my way to get a drink or anything but if its available im drinking...and so i told her that i was bipolar, had an eating disorder, and cut myself and she said she did it all..and i told her if i could be drunk without any consequences id be drunk everyday cuz when im drunk i dont have to deal with the bad feelings.
so she gave me her number and took my number and she said that she'll call me and she's go to AA with me..she said it wouldnt hurt cuz the way i told her i was was how she started..
i think i will go with her on tuesday i mean it wont hurt and id make a friend.
but ive never felt so normal talking to anyone until today i went to go speak to the man and woman (they were young like late 20s maybe)...i didnt feel judge or anything and i told them my deepest stuff and they told me their stories
i still sometimes feel ashamed of that night were i drunk posted on here during christmas break

the only thing about AA that makes me uncomfortable is that whole higher power thing...i do believe there is a higher power but im not religious at all...so id feel like a hypocrite if im like oh yeah ill lean on God u know?
Sounds like you made an instant connection. That can only be a good thing. Your Higher Power doesn't have to be God. It is the God of your understanding. Do you rely on your higher power or does it have a different purpose in your life? Don't worry about being a hypocrite. If we do life correctly, we will inevitably learn new things that might change ideas or beliefs that we had before. It's all good. Enjoy your meeting!
I encourage you to give AA a solid shot - go to SEVERAL meetings.
Listen to and learn from the experiences of others.
And if you are finding yourself starting out on the same path that went awry for your new friend, you might be stopping a potential problem BEFORE it ruins your life.
Rock on, Grrrrl!

yeah i think its a sign that i instantly clicked with this woman and how kind her and the man were to me. and how she volunteered to go with me to a meeting and pick me up and she took my number to make sure she could get in contact with me.
i do believe in God but honestly being spiritual/religious doesnt bring comfort to me. could ur "higher power" be like ur role model?
im gonna go to a meeting or few...even though i dont behave alcoholically this could help me not fall into that. my behavior is kinda doing addictive things..ie:cutting, eating disorder..i do anything so i dont have to deal with life's crap.
im not gonna tell my mom, i just told her that i made a friend at school and were going to "hangout" on tuesday. she will give me grief about it and say im searching for something to be wrong with me.
thank you for the support::-)
It says in the Big Book that if you CANNOT control your drinking when you start you have a problem Binge Drinking counts as alcoholism. Normal drinkers don't consider AA as an option
No one should or will ask you to share you you can just kick back and listen. Finding out if you are an alcoholic can be a long process.
I knew I was an alcoholic at 17 I just didn't really know what that meant.
Of course you're Higher Power could be your role model. I hope you enjoy your meetings and hear something that will be helpful to you.
Telling your mom you're hanging out with a friend you met at school is completely appropriate because that's what you're doing. No big deal to exclude the AA detail. We each have to do what's best for us ... and sometimes there are people in our lives who don't need to be riding shotgun with every aspect.
Best wishes to you!
yeah ill sit back and then when i feel comfortable ill share if they want.
you know tho ive been drunk 3 times..tipsy a few times ..blacked out twice..not alot...i could control how much i drink but i just dont want to cuz im like if im drinking i might as well . DRINK..idk,,but i do have control....or like i dont HAVE to have a drink like i dont feel controlled by it or anything..
I may be totally wrong about that, but you sound a lot like ME when it comes to drinking and I consider myself to be an alcoholic.
Instead of looking at facts that you think show that you're NOT a problem drinker, why don't you look at the facts that ARE in keeping with a problem drinker.
Once you start drinking, you don't stop til you pass out. Social drinkers don't do that.
I forgot about your drunk posting!!! That's another thing a 'social drinker' wouldn't have ended up doing.
You're a black out drinker. Social drinkers don't drink til they black out.
Social drinkers don't drink to forget their problems. (And when you're drinking you can't work on solving your problems.)
Social drinkers don't choose to keep on drinking more than what is good for them just because they want to.
All that stuff happens when the alcohol is in control.
You might feel better while you're drinking, but in the long run, alcohol makes things a lot worse than it does better.
And that usually becomes more and more true as time goes on.
I'm so glad that you 'clicked' with that woman and that you plan to see what AA is all about.
I don't think that anything bad can come from looking into it and maybe it will turn out to be really great!!
Good luck!!! If you're a problem drinker, maybe this will save you. If you're not a problem drinker, maybe this will help you not to become one!!! (((((Hugs)))))
even if i dont black out i do drink to get drunk and it does have to be like shitfaced or anything but i need to feel like im drinking or wats the point...it could be a problem. theres this high feeling i get when i just get over a hangover and then i drink again tell myself i wont and when that hangover goes away then i drink....but this isnt everyday just a weekend with my cousin here or a holiday there...ill give AA a chance..it wont or anything and no one will know except for me and the nice lady that said shed pick me up and well go together.
I wish you the best and I'm sure you will enjoy the meetings you go to . It's really cool that you met that ladyand clicked with her. It's nice to have a new friend.
