My dad is dying. He has fought this fight with cancer for almost 4 years now and we think he is losing. The tumor is growing pretty quickly now. No more chemo or radiation in his future. He is on a "new medicine" to help stop the growth and now trying an alternative treatment.
I don't know how to deal with this. I feel selfish and guilty that it is so hard for me. I feel guilty about everything but in this case I know the feeling is warranted. I need to be there for him and my mom and then I have to come home and medicate for anxiety and panic.
Mom told us to come every day now because she is sure it is soon. She cried, I cried. I don't want my dad to see me break down but I simply can't control my emotions; now more than ever.
Anyone have any pointers on how to control my emotions and my anxiety so that I can be the daughter they need right now?

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

There are certain illnesses that we hear of, like Parkinson's or ALS, that are just Insidious in the way they drag out like a bad suspense movie, gradually stealing control away from us in Every area of life itself, never letting us know "when" the next "loss of control" is coming....we see that diseases of that nature challenge even the Strongest people.
But No One lets go of control easily, in ANY illness; cancer is no exception. We don't Want to die! Even more, we don't Want to suffer pain, or have to witness our Loved ones suffer pain as they Watch us get sicker...we want Health, we want Control, and we want it Every Time. For Every Person.
...Of Course we do; no matter how long someone I loved was sick, or How dire the condition, I Never wanted them to actually Die. That meant Loss, and it is Human to want to Keep everyone! Where would they go? What will happen to them after this life? We don't Know, we Panic, and it's Natural.
Okay - enough deep stuff. You Love your Dad, your Mom is freaking out, it's Heavy, it's Emotional, and it Won't Go Away, even if you hide under a blanket going lalalalalala.
Go ahead - imagine a Worst Case Scenario. It' Healthy, dammit. It doesn't mean it's going to Happen; the new treatment may make him Better, and you all would get blessed with Extra Time. And I hope so!
But in my opinion, facing down your giants is what brings you to a place of Control, at least somewhat....Let Go of your Dad, emotionally. Put his life in the hands of the Powers-That-Be, and KNOW that you may lose him. Cry; beat the pillow and then go over there and Spend Time with him, while you Have it.
Hold on to your Mom, let her know she won't be Alone if the worst happens; admit that you have ZERO control over tomorrow, but "Today" you can be with both your parents here, and love them, and be loved BY them.
And come here and have breakdowns. A LOT, because talking about things is pretty darned cathartic sometimes. And it's Okay.

I have no special thoughts for you on how to deal with this.
I am watching my own mother die , and it is something we can not fully prepare ourselves for .
All I can say, if you have family, rely on their support !
If you feel yourself slipping...GET HELP from your Pdoc or therapist.
If you have any kind of faith...use it and pray
My deepest regrets you are going through this
hugs
