Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I was in the Lawyer's office and there are so many tough questions...I just wanted to leave.
Anyway, I said I had this huge episode and my brain is barely functioning and the meds which are tons of them make it almost impossible to stay awake.
You know what strikes me. She said, "Everybody has bi-polar and everybody takes meds and everybody goes to work with NO problems what so ever. Everybody is just fine with their meds.
I wasn't going to win an argument with a lawyer but that just goes to show just how stupid some people are. If only they would read the forums and find out how very difficult everyone's life just is. It's literally from day to day and not, "hunky dory" as was explaining to me. It's "hunky dory" until it hits you or your family member then watch someone walk through hell over and over again with mental distress.
Just voicing an opinion. Thanks for the ear. God Bless

Sorry your lawyer was such an idiot. Maybe you should find a more understanding lawyer. "Normal" people just don't understand what we go through and it's hard to tell them because usually we are trying to fake it when we are in public so people won't think we are crazy.

Your lawyer is a real loser. Somebody needs to slap her and force a big dose of haldol on her...mostly kidding, but some of these people have no business advocating for us MI.

I agree with everyone! What a jerk lawyer! She obviously doesn't know the ins and outs of MI and the effects it has on our lives. I say, educate her and dump her or just dump her and find someone else. It is impossible for some - MANY - people to work with BP. The last time I interviewed with a vocational counselor, she whispered to me: "Do you really think you CAN work, though?" And she was a sweetheart! If you were wearing your BP on your sleeve, she probably wouldn't have seen it. I'm sorry -- keep on looking for another lawyer! ((((hugs))))

I used a disability advocate when I lost my job in 2004, he really helped a lot. I've been on disability since late 2005, early 2006. I had a super hard time relating to people, as I've been diagnosed with high-functioning Aspberger's (spelling?) Autism as well, along with bulging discs in my back, migraines, bipolar, psychosis, other health problems that prevented me from going back to work. I hope you can find someone to help you. Hugs.

Yikes. Hope you can find a new lawyer, you definitely don't need that kind of negativity. So many people's lives are completely devastated by this disease. That guy has no idea. Ugh. What a jerk.

I hear this a lot "why can't you go to work you used to or everyone else with bipolar does?" people are not all alike the illness is not the same for everyone and it didn't get bad for me till in my 30's. I got turned down because in my session with my counselor I said I thought I could work but obviously it didn't take because the minute I left the counselors office I was back to my dreary feelings of despair and anxiety. I also got turned down because I quit going to counseling but they kept switching my counselors and the new ones were terrible honestly I find more help on this site talking to people. I take my meds but wont see a counselor I refuse they make me more anxious and I find myself pretending I am better like I need to make them feel better it was exhausting really. I hope tings work out for you I really do I am reapplying. I feel like I have more to say to the judge this time.
