Sorry to say, but psychiatric drugs affect most people differently. Lithium and Seroquel should help with this but if they do not, keep talking to your psychiatrist or prescribing doctor.

There are so many combinations that can would for bipolar disorder, it took me almost 4 years to figure it out.

Research things like bipolar treatments, drugs, as well as anxiety drugs.

The nice thing that doctors can mix and match specific drugs to suit you.

I wouldn't worry too much, it's probably not going to be drastic changes from what you've been doing. Psych drugs do affect everyone differently and a big thing with BiPolar is finding the right Cocktail and sticking with it. Combing that with Talk Therapy and taking care of yourself, eating right, getting enough sleep, etc. will make things much easier. BiPolar is a lifestyle, not just an illness. You sound like your on the right track to getting things under control.

Glad you found out what was wrong with you. Everyone reacts different on medicine pay attention to your moods keep a journal of your recovery it will help you.

i hope the meds work well for you. a lot of members take lithium and an antipsychotic, so it must be a good combo. :)

Welcome!!! Sorry for your Dx, and glad your here - that particular combo was excellent for me, I had no side effect except thirst, took the Seroquel right before I turn the bedside light off! LOL Also, like to eat on it, but finally got that under control! : )

Being diagnosed bipolar gave me huge direction and much better meds - but for me, its meds and coping skills - chemical imbalance or not, your best thinking - got you HERE : )

There's a ton of info on Bipolar on the net and we discuss a lot here.. Sometimes it takes a while to get the meds straight but you will .. Your medical team will help to get you there and we're here for support ...x

Hello, I took both medicines that you are taking and both worked really good exept the Seroquel had me very sedated all the time maybe I was taking to high of a dose and than they switch it to something else the withdrawals of stoping Seroquel were hell... But if you don't need to stop it there is no reason to worry. THe lithium stops working afer a wile so they kept prescribing me higher doses. Now I am on Zyprexa. It has taken me about 3 years to be on the medicine I am now so its a try and fail type of thing until you find something that is good for you. I also find having a routine works for me keeping my moods and my anxiety better and also read read read go to the bookstore and get all the books about bipolar and read them. The more you know the better off you are. The medicine will make your life so much better so I am happy that you finally got diagnosed. Good luck to you!!!

I was only on Lithium for a few days years ago but it made me feel heavy. I didn't like it and was in the hospital at the time so they changed it... but I have heard that it can work wonders for other people. The important thing to remember right now is to not let the diagnose defind you.

At least now you have located the problem and can work towards a solution.

I am newly diagnosed as well. I always thought I just had anxiety and depression as well. I was diagnosed with Bipolar II also and I am on Celexa and Syroquel and so far I think they may be working. It is too soon to tell. I find writing and therapy and a great support group of family and friends helps a lot. it is hard to find people who understand what you are going through. That is why I joined this site. I hope your journey of finding the right medication cocktail goes good for you. It has been 2 months since I have been hospitalized and I think they finally got me on the right mix.
