I'd keep it in the department first before going to HR. Once HR are involved it is out of your hands and can blow out of proportion and she sounds like the kind of person who would be even nastier if you made a formal complaint.
Is there any way you can ask you supervisor to be nicer as you work better for nice people? They usually like you to have a try at resolving it yourself.
Start a log of what she says and when she says/does it - diary is best. This kind of evidence is needed for disciplinary action.
Definitely keep the emails she sends.
People like her are insecure and act high and mighty and feel better by putting others down - it makes them feel higher.
Don't out yourself yet - just apologise to her for jumping the chain of command and try to explain that you just wanted their input before showing it to her maybe?
