Beyond Medication Community Group
In this group we will be looking at alternative or supplementary methods of dealing with every day stressors and anxiety. This is for people who do not want to feel as though they do not want to be tied to the medicine cabinet. We will be using such techniques as mindfulness, meditation, grounding, guided imagery, Yoga and other behavioral and self-discipline techniques...

Agreement on the energy theory. I do not believe science is anywhere near to naming all the types of energy in nature, much less measuring the effects of all those energies.
This morning while I was gardening, idle contemplation of the scuba meditation led to me mentally teaching water ballet to sharks...
Maybe this visualization biz can be carried too far?
Teaching water ballet to sharks? That is so funny. I love things like that being that I teach art to kids and they love whatever is unique like that.
Arfie, I wish you could do a skype thing where you lead is in meditation. You seem to be a master in it. I was trying to meditate today and couldn't.
basic breathing and calming ... simple and short at first... as you learn to get in tune with who you are... just sitting inside and being quiet with yourself...
or you can sit on the floor with your back up against the wall for posture and relax with music playing ... eyes closed and even breathing....
i have quite a few posting for yoga in the archives of threads here... PM me if you like ... i have skype..
Arfie,
I love the Ballet Sharks!!! The visual that came to mind was humorous and yet, relaxing. Remember, sharks are consider very agile and quick... for obvious reasons. That said, I vote that your experience is positive and beneficial. It sounds very fun!
Energy: My mind visits the subject of unseen energies much these days. I find that there are many things we accept as we grow from children to adults. We accept without question... it is expected. Science only supports information it can define. Everything else is hypothesis or worse, unfounded. When someone performs an energy healing on someone who feels the results and finds benefit... how can that be unfounded. Whether or not the receiver "imagined" the results or not... there is benefit.
How does that happen? The mind plays tricks they say? How does the mind do that? Misfiring electrical impulses... and what not? I say if the mind can intentionally cause a benefit, then that is proof something happened. Cause and effect. We need to better understand it. (I think I have a soap box going here... sorry.)
Hope everyone had a wonderful day... lots of smiles and warm thoughts.
You are awesome to offer meditation support! I hope more people take an interest. When I first heard of meditation, I was curious, but not interested. I had no idea... Later, when my curiosity grew stronger, I found that some meditation music was better than others (preference speaking) and found that I mostly wandered a lot in my mind and fretted on worries. After a bit more research and practice, I am learning there is a discipline to meditation AND there is a fun side.
If I had known about the fun side long ago... I would have started much sooner! Arfie has a great example... teaching sharks water ballet (brings a smile every time). If we let ourselves sit for a few minutes, focus on our breathing like you mentioned, I think more people would have fun meditating. Some might even explore the more serious side when they are comfortable. Thats my two cents... (1.2 cents in today's economy).
Maybe we start a meditation clinic... Meditations-R-US. Only fun meditations are allowed! Bring giggles and smiles...
please feel free to start your own thread... on any subject... just keep in mind that others come through here that are new, and other members too... so... be specific towards the topic header as to attract reading by others ....
