Bereavement Support Group
Are you grieving the loss of a loved one? Whether you lost someone recently or it's been years, grief and its accompanying emotions can be complicated to cope with. Join our online support group to connect with a supportive group of people who really know how you feel. Help is right here.
I find the early mornings are the hardest for me. I wake early feeling relatively rested and then the events of the past five weeks come flooding back.
I turn to this site often just to see how people are travelling. it is such a hard road to travel. My adult children are travelling it too of course as we are a close family but at the end /beginning of the day it is still me on my own after 41 beautiful years with Norman xxx
I have tried counselling, have had a couple of sessions which have helped, and am going to try a Bereavement support group purely for spouses. I keep getting told that the worst is yet to come! I don't know how that possibly can be.
I have taken myself off for the week to the beach. The sea is wonderfully calming I find but I worry that I am filling my mind/present life to much with things rather than simply meditating on the pain of losing my life partner.
I guess we are all different and grieve accordingly. I'm hoping to make a couple of connections through this website but like others have difficulty negotiating it.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I have my wife, but have lost my parents and only sibling, a sister. There was a certain feeling of loss for the unit (my birth family) in addition to each of the individual losses. I think that to a certain extent nobody really knows how another feels. To come close, it may be necessary to have suffered a comparable loss. IDK.
Some of the "worst moments" are the major events: birthdays, wedding anniversaries, holidays, special events, things like that. My wife lost her dad almost 30 years ago. She still misses him, but more often than not she is able to smile when things occur that remind her of him.
I guess we all get to that point.
I think that bereavement classes can be GREAT, but we have to invest in them emotionally rather than sit back and expect miracles.
The other thing that I have noticed is that we MUST grieve, but in our own way. A couple of ladies in my bereavement class did not grieve. One felt she had to be strong for the other family members (she lost her daughter to the ravages of mental illness) and the other did not have a funeral or memorial service because her husband did not want one.
Both suffered from lack of a ceremony.
Then there was a generic service that our bereavement counselor told us about and they went. Man, for them it was like night and day! Yes, they finally cried their eyes out, I mean REALLY cried. And then AFTER they did that, then the healing started.
Gentle hugs
The Widows and Widowers board on here is really wonderful ... It's filled with people who have been there and is very a very supportive place to be
I agree that Bereavment Groups can be great
I have lost several family members not a life partner so I don't understand this loss however I do very much empathize with you and your family.... Another hug and a blessing....xo
I found mornings difficult. He made me coffee every day. I soon tried writing him letters that I kept in a notebook. It helped me deal with the loss. We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary just a few months before he was diagnosed. Putting my feelings into words was exhausting but cleansing too.
I hope we can get to know each other better and share together. Sharon
Here's a link to it......xo
