My Mom was my abuser and when she died 4 months ago, I went into PTSD flashbacks so bad. It sort of crashed my inner child and I have been working with doctors to help out.
I have forgiven Mom for what she did and held my own crememony to celebrate the good parts of the lives of my Mom and Dad (who both passed last year) so that Christmas 2012 would be a good one for me. My ceremony was very useful.
We all heal in our own way at our own pace. We also all react so differently to death. Many, many hugs.
I've been off DS board a long while - it was nice to see your familiar name. I do my share of over-spending or shopping for what I really don't need - and tell myself to stop. (makes it hard, since I work in a store !) My house has become so cluttered (depression / laziness sure haven't helped), and I lose track of new things I've bought.
But unused purchases can be returned - for money back or credit.
I fully agree with you that shopping is the unspoken depression...I still think that depression itself is left unattended or criticized - by those who lose patience with us...just when we need people most. That's why some turn to things. I know I need support - from friends / family. Yet, a close friend privately told a grief counselor - that I could end up pushing a shopping cart down the street some day...BIG TIME error. I'm down, I'm sad - I need my family, friends, prayers and moral support - not criticism - plain and simple. We all do.
God bless
