There are so many theories about life after death it will make your head spin.
I lost my beloved Daddy September 15th of this year.
Never have I explored the after life like I do now. Never have I questioned God, Jesus, Angels, Heaven, Buddha, Krishna, The Universe until now! Is he in another dimension on another plane? Did he reincarnate into that fly on my wall? Did Jesus wrap his arms around him and welcome him to his Holy Land? Is he in transition? Can he hear my thoughts right now?
Its amazing because when we loose someone we love we want to be sure that wherever they are:
A) they are safe and happy
B) we will be with them again.
I went to church when he died, I pray, I meditate, I look for signs, feathers, listen to songs because he may be relaying a message. When I close my eyes I hope to dream of him, maybe its an actual visit from him? When I wake up I try and remember my dream. Was he in it?
I long for my Dad so much. The grief is intense. Watching a home video of him is OUT OF THE QUESTION. It would bring so much sorrow I wouldn't dare.
I have been reading about near death experiences lately. Believe it or not they do provide some comfort. I have noticed that every experience shares common elements.
1) When we die our soul lifts up above our body. We can see our dead body and those around it. We can even see our loved ones grieving.
2) We head towards a light source.
3) There is an overwhelming amount of love felt. Unlike anything you could ever imagine.
After this, its split. Some say they see God or Jesus. Others say angels take their hand. Others say they begin traveling through universe where time and space does not exist. And so on and so forth.
After obtaining all of this "information" I just try to make the best of it. I hold in my heart the truth that my dad is happy and he is excited to reunite again. In the meantime, I shall do as he did. Live my life to the fullest because a lifetime on Earth is a millisecond in the afterlife :)

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...

I don't doubt that somehow there are signs that they are with us still, whether the signs are truly from them, or they are what we seek to ease our mourning.
The best that we can do is, as you said, live life to the fullest, because to do otherwise would be a disservice to their memory. Cherish your memories of your dad and he will be with you always.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
My best to you.

I am only 26 years old. I don't want to know that I will have this pain and suffer until the day I die.
Blessings and love your way.
I don't think you ever get over the loss, but the pain of the loss becomes more managable.
For myself I don't know what I would do if I did not have my faith.
I miss my dad so much everyday still
Finding peace about this, all boils down to what you believe. There are those who believe in re-incarnation, there are those who believe in soul-sleep. There are those who believe, when you die, that's all there is. There are those who believe that you go to a place and suffer for your sins until you are "prayed out".
Being a Christian, and a Pastor, I believe the Bible states it plainly what happens after we die. Maybe I can help you with your grief, if you will allow me to.
