Being an adult daughter with an aging parent is hard. Our lives are busy, filled with demands & pressures and then our parent need us...then time is has gone...time we can never get back...
What you are going through is so difficult. Please be kind to yourself.
Your mom loved & trusted you or she never would have asked you to help...she asked and you delivered...the errands go done...
Please keep sharing. The wonderful people here have helped me tremendously.
I feel like I was reading something I wrote, except about my father. He passed away about 1 1/2 years ago, like your mother, from cancer, it spread very quickly and by the time we knew it, we only had 2 short weeks with him, but I was also able to be at his side when he left us.
I too, felt so much guilt. I moved out about 3 months before he passed, and didn't realize how sick he was, or I would have moved back, would of done more, called more. I passed boards to get my RN license less than a month before he passed, if I was a nurse sooner, maybe I could of helped....
I say please don't beat yourself up. Your mother knew how much you loved her. I am giving you a big cyber hug, and wish you fast healing. I hope you find a moment of strengh in what is sure to be a very rough time for you. God Bless you.
It was so hard seeing my mom in those final days. She didn't look the same and you could see in her eyes she was passing and there was nothing I could do to stop it. Being there until the end is kind of a double edged sword. I wanted to be with her but I don't want to remember her that way. I want to remember her smiling, laughing and hugging us.
Today is July 4th and we would go to the park to watch the fireworks every year. I thought of going myself but I don't think I can bear it. We did so much together. I'd always said when my mom goes, I want to go with her. She was a tremendous support for me in life and I don't know what I'm going to do without her. I'm a mess right now.
I too had a very sick Mum
I too wished I had done more
I was so shocked when she died I had been in
her bedroom a couple of hours before and she
said she was tired and when I went back to
Check her she was dead . I had been running
Around all afternoon trying to get her
Medicine that my sister hadn't got a repeat
on . I hope she didn't sense my stress
I hope she knew how much I loved her
I hope she knew that if I had known
she was going to die that day I would never
have left her side. My heart broke into
a thousand pieces that day She has been dead
7 years this month and this is the first time
I have put my guilt into words
So you are not alone I think your Mum and
My Mum knew we loved them
Grief is a process so be kind to yourself
and take one day at a time
Hugs Deb
Your mom loved you and knew how much you loved her. Please be kind to yourself and take as much time as you need to grieve and heal. *hugs*
Hugs to you debraccc. I know those guilty feelings all too well. If we could just get that time back, we would do things differently. We just have to keep believing that our moms knew all the love we had and still have for them in our hearts.
Sorry for your loss too, mouse30. Thank you for your kindness.
barbarame, thank you for your lovely words.
