I lost my dad June 2016 which was sudden. He had been ill for 7 years but he deteriorated from speaking to not breathing in 24 hours. He had cancer and it had spread to his liver, spine, kidneys and both lungs. Hospital didn't find out until it was too late. I lost everything even my house. I have managed to pick all the bits of my life back up on my own. I have a new place and a new job. I am exhausted though which no amount of sleep or time seems to help. I miss my dad so much and can't see how i will carry on without him. I have deppression and anxiety which doesn't make anything else. I have a good week or so and then i break down and can't stop. I feel like such a weakling but people say i am very strong. I looked after my dad after my mom left a year for a another man before he died. I cared for him full time and had a full time job so I could keep a roof over mine and his head. I felt that the part of me that could fight and never give up died with him that day. The last week i keep having dreams about him and it's ruining my days as i don't want to sleep now. I have seen counsellors and psychologists so i should be better and be able to cope right? I am wrong to feel broken and tired of everything?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I hope counseling works for you.
I like to think of grieving as facing emotions rather than stages. The stages idea makes me think that I need to deal with a stage once and then be done with it.
Sigh.
But no matter how you look at it, stages or emotions, we are all very likely to bounce between them, often returning to a stage or emotion we thought we had mastered.
We are only human, so don't expect things to flow like a text book case.
It sounds like you had a double shot in that you not only lost your father, but you went from a very over-worked role as care taker plus grieving daughter to "nothing to occupy your time". (Obviously there are things that occupy your time, but the feeling exists.)
Please give yourself permission to be as angry as you need, but also give yourself permission to allow people to fill in the hole in your soul that was your father. Obviously nobody can replace him, but perhaps there are other family members and close friends who can help. Think of the things that he meant to you, things that he did with you or for you. For example, if he was the one who helped you send out holiday cards, perhaps an uncle would take on the role.
Gentle hugs
You were his caregiver.... I cared for both of my parents as well and I was really lost once they were both gone and it seemed the same to me as though it was sudden although in reality both had been very ill for a long time.... I just wasn't ready I suppose
If you think that grief has triggered you into a depression I would continue to work with your professionals..... Some grief counseling might help you work through it.... and it is a process as cold as that sounds.....Big hug and a blessing......xo
