Lately, my 6 year old son seems to be very curious about the two urns which sit next to each other in my house. One is a cherry wood box which holds the remains of my grandmother and the other is a gold box which holds the remains of my father who passed away on May 31. A few weeks ago he asked me what the boxes were for. I responded by saying that those are boxes that help me to remember great-grandma and grandpa. He seemed content with that answer. Then, just the other day, he went over to the box and asked me what was in them. I told him that there was a whole lot of love inside those boxes. Since he's only 6 years old I know he's far too young to explain cremation but at the same time I want to be able to provide simple yet honest answers to him. Has anyone else had to deal with this before with small children?
