On November 19th 2016, I recieved a call from my Dad to come over to my parents house to have dinner. At the time I had been living on my own for about 2 years now after graduating college. I would go over to my parents house here and there, but not often. If we were going to have dinner together, we would just go out to eat. For some reason that day I had a feeling of to just slow down in life. I had went to the gym around 10am for a workout. Long story short, someone locked my keys in a locker with their lock on it. Needless to say I was at the gym for 2 more hours after my workout. When I finally got home, I recieved a call from my Dad that he wanted me to come over to the house for a Crab and Shrimp boil (his favorite meal) and watch football (one of our favorite things to do together). Usually I would have already made dinner or would have plans with my friends, but I told my Dad I would come over. On my way over to their house, for some reason I drove 5 miles under the speed limit. It was if my self-concious was telling me something was going to happen. I remember seeing a car fly buy me and honk and it didn't bother me because I felt like I needed to slow down. At my parents house, I remember mom was in the kitchen and Dad and I were in the living room watching football and talking about needing to buy our flight for going to New Jersey for Christmas. We had also been talking about buying a boat together and we were talking about that as well. At one point during the game, I looked over, and my Dad had tears in his eyes. It was as if his self-concious new something was going to happen. About an hour later, Dad had finished eating dinner and all of a sudden he said that he had a really bad headache and that he felt nauseous. He asked my mom and I to help him to the bathroom becuase he was going to get sick. When we tried to help him up, he was dead weight and we couldnt moved him. My mom went to get a bucket and I held my Dad up in my arms as he got sick. He kept telling me that he couldnt see the score on the TV and said it was blurry. All I could do was hold him up and comfort him telling everything was going to be ok. I remember feeling really scared and my heart pounding out of my chest. After a couple minutes he stopped getting sick and he asked me to let him lay back and rest and that he was ok. I let him lean back in his recliner, and his eyes rolled into the back of his head so I held him back up and had my mom call 911. As the paramedics arrived, they were asking him questions and he was slurring his words and not telling them correct answers. The EMT's decided to take him to a level 1 trauma Hospital 35 minutes away, instead of to our local hospital. At one point I heard one of the EMT's say that they can air lift him if they need to. I knew it wasnt good. When they were taking my Dad off on the stretcher, I told him that we would see him soon. On the way to the hospital my mom kept saying this was just going to be a wake up call. (My Dad never went to the doctor) When we got to the hospital, we were met with a chaplain. Shortly after that the doctor came in and said that my Dad had suffered a major intraparenchymal hemorrhage in his brain and that he had no brain activity. From that time, my life changed. 2 days later after multiple brain tests and exams, my Dad was gone. There was nothing the doctors could do. The hemorrhage was so severe that it put pressure on to his brain stem, taking away all of his neurological function.
The outpouring of friends and family members really helped me and made me feel some comfort. We had an amazing service with a thousand people there and I had to be strong for everyone else and for my mom. I think at the time I was still in shock. Now January 5th, 2017 and I feel so lost right now. There's so much that I wish I could have said to my Dad or got to experience with him that we never did. All I can think about is the important things left in my life that he will never get to see.

Hey All...I hope that you have a lovely, peaceful beginning of your weekI have a bunch of chores that need doing but may put them off til tomorrow and just hang out with my landlord/roomie todayWhat about you?...Anything special going on?Have a great day and take good care of you!!..Xo

I think that the last day you had with your Dad was very special ... Sharing his favourite meal and watching the sport that the two of you shared a passion for.... talking about a trip.... buying a boat...caring about one another is really special and it speaks volumes Frank.... I think you did say a lot to him
Right now this is all so new and there is nothing to compare to the pain of new grief
Grief support groups can be a really helpful way to vent and gain support
Another hug and a blessing......xo
I learned a lesson from my dad. Do not die with all your loose ends tied up. If you do that means that you stopped living long before you died; that when you 'finished things' you just sat down and waited to die.
Celebrate the fact that you had a list of things you were going to do with your father. My dad and I had our list of things we were going to do, one of which was to go to his home town/state and visit family and friends. Although I wish we could have done that, I am glad that we did not just sit and talk about the past with no thought of the future.
I want you to know you are not alone, and I will keep you in my prayers. God bless you. Lisa
Last year my husband got off a plane and died of the same thing
So I can understand the pain that you feel
Grief is hard and I'm learning it takes time..my only advise is to talk or write about how you feel
