The pain of losing my brother has been horrendous. He was my best friend & I really miss laughing with him. My heart hurts. I've tried to find a counselor but to no avail. There are support groups, but I can't go because they're mid day. It seems, people think you should be "over" it quickly. I just lie and fake I'm ok. I miss my best friend who understood me like no one else. I miss hearing him laugh. I miss everything about him. Any advice would be appreciated.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Grief is a process and it takes it's own time.... It's important to let yourself feel what you feel in order to work through it
Your family doctor would be able to refer you to a therapist...... Another hug......xo
"life goes on" ... it does but you are in mourning
your grief has its own timeline,
you've lost a significant person that was more than a friend & more than a brother
such loss is bitter
the bitterness is "good" in that it can bring to mind why it is so bitter, because you knew the sweetness of your brother
as your grieve realize that the sweetness of having had him in your life can never be overshadowed by the bitterness of his loss
I lost my brother/best friend/only sibling 42 years ago in a motorcycle accident. He was 16 and died 5 days before my 15th birthday.
It is one of the most difficult things I have ever gone through.
The first year was mostly shock. The following years were learning to accept (that was a doozy).
I totally understand when others think you should move on....ya just want to shake them. I had ppl tell me that just a few weeks after my brothers death as well as well meaning other things. I have come to realize that ppl really don't know what to say, so they just say things randomly when saying nothing and giving a hug would have been more comforting.
With that said, try to ignore their "well meaning" words and grieve in your own way.....on your own terms.....and for as long as it takes.
If it does get too difficult to move forward and you feel the same depth of pain say 6-8 months down the road, please seek help to help you process the grief. It doesn't mean you will forget or disrespect your brother, but it will help you get through the cycle of grief with greater understanding.
I stuffed all my feelings down becuz others wanted me to move on too quickly and I ended up having a breakdown 15 years later which involved being in a hospital and all kinds of meds to face my deep unexpressed grief......not pretty.
I know it feels like your arm has been ripped off and you are trying to find your normal. However, be gentle and patient with yourself as you travel this unfamiliar road.
You can NEVER forget your sweet brother and memories will comfort you and sometimes make you mad. That is how it works.
You will grieve the rest of your life (sorry) as when certain events come that he "should have" been there (i.e. weddings, births, holidays.....).
You will learn to honor him at those times.
I am fortunate enough to stay in touch with some of my brothers friends through the years. They still call or I call/write them and we share stories which keeps my brother alive in our hearts. We have even found ourselves laughing at some of the silly memories of my brother.
Sadly......some of his friends have joined him and my dad joined him 6 years ago. So imagine they are whooping it up out there in the cosmos :)
Please don't bottle up your feelings. Talk about your brother as often as you like here or with some of his friends?
Don't hone in on one person to talk about your brother. Find 3 or 4 ppl so that you don't wear one person down.
Just know you will have bad days and good days with time.
I'm sure your brother is out there sending his love to you and everyone.....all the time!!!!
You take care of yourself. Ignore those that only mean well but are ignorant or perhaps uncomfortable with your grief. Most folks just want to fix others, but it is not intentionally to hurt you, they just hate seeing you so broken.
Just know you are not alone. I am glad you reached out for help. This is a great first step!
Sending love and light for healing and strength.
