I have had 3 loses through close friends. I held their hand the whole time through.
It is early and you are taking it minute by minute. And you probably could care less what others are telling you.
However, I promise you....it will start being good & bad hours, then days. The pain will go away, but the memory of your son will never leave you. They will start to make you laugh and smile. But it will take time.
You are not alone.....Paula
I was desperate...he was my first born...I had spent 5 years with him in the hospital, his cancer was in remission, but his mind was not right.
Three years later, I'm in group therapy twice a week, have been put on anti-depressants, and am enjoying life as best I can. His urn is at the house and I talk to him every day. (Don't worry, he hasn't talked back, yet). One thing I do is have some of the plants he recieved at the funeral, along with his picture, and a few personal items, around his urn. It makes me feel like he's still with me in spirit. I've even gone so far as to put his mail there, too. After almost three years, the mail still comes, and I still give it to him.
I hope you can find peace at some point. It's going to take a long time. For me, it was about 2 1/5 years before I could get up the courage to have a good day. If you have a God, now would be the time to reach out to Him and pray for strength.
Deepest sympathy,
Heidi
I'm also new to this site! I lost my husband on 12/31/12 to liver disease we have 4 children (21,17,6 & 5) My 21 & 17 yr old were very upset with him (along with me for giving up) and he died infront on them in the ER after having a siezure (he never had them before) and w/ in an hour he was gone! My kids are sad they never got to say they are sorry and that they loved him! I fell apart and refused to go to the hospital.....he was my whole life and I couldn't watch him actually die! He was told if he took care of himself he could live till he was 90!! I also lost me BF/COUSIN Joseph @ 36 from Heart disease......I am glad I found this site reading some of your replies I now know I'm NOT alone in being so sad!!! ~Kelli
I lost my only son 21 years ago in an automobile accident. I did not get to say goodbye. He was in a car coming back from the beach - it was "Senior Week" with his high school buddies. He was 18 years old. They all fell asleep in the car, ran off the road. Tommy was killed outright, there was not a scratch on anyone else in the car.
The shock was unbelievable and I thought at the time it was unbearable. I was a divorced mom, had spent half my life as his mother. And then suddenly, one day, like you, I was not.
Let people help you. Most people do not know what to say to you. They cannot imagine how they would feel in your place. Some parents act like they think it's contagious and will avoid you. Forgive them.
If people ask what they can do for you, tell them to come sit with you. Just be with you, because the alone times, after work, especially dinner time, can be especially cruel. Don't go "out" if you don't feel like it. You will feel like an odd duck for a while, til you figure out who you are now. You are a different person now.
Be protective of yourself and your own health. If you pray, spend lots of time pouring your heart out, even silently. It helps to know He hears you and is suffering with you.
My mother told me after my son died that God needed him on the other side. There was work for him to do that only he could do, and so he was taken from here. It helped me to see that his life was not pointless. That he had been prepared for this work he had to do.
Please contact me if you want to talk about things that are going on with you. I still think of my son often, I wonder what he would look like now. If he would be married and have children. His whole life was before him and then it was over without warning.
Be kind to yourself.
Love and hugs,
Auntie Lisa
