My 5 year old son has had bell's palsy twice and I always strongly suspected that it affected his taste buds.He has had a very limited diet ever since he got sick and is currently in feeding therapy.He is unable to tell me why he doesn't want to eat and we have tried everything.It has been two years since his last episode and I wonder how long these feeding problems will continue.
May I ask if you have any lingering pain or trouble chewing and swallowing left from your BP?

i have no pain or trouble swollowiing but my taste buds are definitely affected, the only thing i can taste is salt, no matter what i eat or drink. kinda like a mouthful of blood. but even milk and sweets taste like salt

I havent had BP long, but I have very little to no taste ability in my entire mouth. Im hopeing I will be able to taste but but I can say I know what you are feeling.

my 6th day taste spuds have gone i carnt seem to stop eating

I have not lost the ability to taste, but the sensation has greatly decreased. Which stinks because I am a foodie. :(

I've had Bells Palsy for 4 days now. I am still learning about it. But I too think it tastes like blood all day and night.
I have a question for everyone. Did all of you symptoms happen at once. Or in a day?
Cause I noticed my Face feel weird on Saturday night and then sunday morning, everything. But now that I think back, I think my taste buds were screwed up a few days earlier. Is that common?

Bells Palsy, I would like to pass this information on in hopes of helping someone elsa. For me it started with a sharp pain behind my ear and shot at and angle towards my neck with in 12-16 hours I started losing muscle strength on one side of my face. You need to get to the doctors or ER. I had very bad case nothing moved on right side and also lost taste, my taste came back. You need to ask your doctor about starting on Prednisone and acyclovir that 1st day. Then see about seeing an Otolaryngology. I needed to go through a ENT to get referred to this other doctor. But call them they are helping me but my doctor said I didn't need a Neurologist so I didn't go in the beginning. This doctor is a ENT/Neurologist Specialist. Each case is differant I know, but you need to look into these other doctors. In some cases they can releive the pressure on that 7th cranial nerve and help prevent the paralysis, or at least make it not as bad. If nothing elsa they can get you to the right people for possible recovery. I am NOT a doctor but I do know now after 4 months of dealing with it and research there are things you can do for Bell's Palsy if they are started right away. So don't let your doctor tell you "Oh, yup you have Bell's Palsy there is nothing you can do about it". And also I am now doing Acupuncture and that is helping me a lot. And even he told me most Acupuncture treatments for Bell's Palsy may only take 2-3 times if started in the first week depending on the case. BY ALL MEANS I AM NOT TRYING TO BE A DOCTOR! But trying to limit your time in research so hopefully you can get help or help someone elsa sooner. They say things happen to you in life for a reason. Perhaps this is my reason for this happening to me so I can help someone elsa. I am on a standing order if I get bell's palsy again which will be the 3rd time. 1st call I make is to the Oyolaryngology and he will do surgery. Hope every thing works out for you. I am trying to get this information I found spred around to help others, the doctor said not even your regular doctors or ERs are informed as to what to do about Bell's Palsy.

i started to lose taste the morning i felt the pain underneath my ear. didn't think too much of it and went on with my day, until i noticed my awkward smile at night.

i don't really remember any strong symptoms from the day before, but i felt like a had a little cold coming on.

I first noticed a fuzzy tongue before the facial paralysis 2 days later. I'm in week 24 and my face is almost back with just a little restriction in my mouth while speaking but my taste buds seem worse. I feel I have no taste at all. Hoping this will be temporary as I do like tasting my food.
