Hi! I'm 36 and I've had problems with my knees for most of my life. I'm on the thin side as well so it's not a weight issue for me either. I had knee surgery when I was 20 after it got to the point where I could no longer walk on it (I was still waitressing...limping and barely able to do it...up till the day before surgery with a huge brace on my right leg...HUGE tips that week, LOL!) - a lateral release of the right knee. Basically they had to cut the ligaments and re-position my patella, after cleaning out the calcification and gunk behind it. My knee cap was out of place for most of my life so it caused a lot of issues. My left one is not as bad.

The surgery helped a lot, but I've had a lot of pain in both knees throughout the years and it definitely coincides with my flares. It does get to the point where I can't walk without pain, but I also have a lot of pain in my ankle joints and feet so I end up walking like an old lady sometimes. ;0) I don't have any answers for you, but I wanted to let you know that I do have the same issues and I can sympathize.

. I also had a lateral release on my left knee. Had in Feb and went back to the surgeon in April to beg for my knee replacement. He did the knee replacement in August. The lateral release eased the pain for about two weeks only.
I also walk like an old lady on ocassion and work very hard to keep a normal gait going.!!
When l had a flare this year both my knees ached very badly about two weeks before the other symptoms showed themselves.
As well as sore shoulders sore back....... You know the story.

I have had buristis like symptoms which at first caused my knee to lock due to the intense pain. By the time they finally started to treat it, I was put on alot of meds including prednisone. A couple of years later I got twice in three months. No surgeries for me.

am being treated for hip bursitis and tendonitis, also attributed to behcets. no more than 5 minutes walking, no bending, no lifting, no exercise for 2 months! its funny how we just hitch ourselves along until someone says"stop! you have a serious injury!" i guess we are just used to it.

I am new here as of today, I'm 35 and all my life I've been an athlete, even still hold records at my high school in several track events. I've had 4 knee surgeries and was told my knee probs were due to hs sports, I never had an injury, my knees would swell up to where I couldn't even put a pair of jeans on over them. Every Dr. looks at me like a junkie just trying to get pills, which I am definitely not! I am the wife of a police officer and mother of 4 very active kids from 17-6, I'm tired of hearing that I'm too young to be in that much pain, and all I wanna do is scream to these Dr.'s, that I know I'm too young! I don't necessarily want their drugs, I want fixed and to feel like playing with my kids AND husband again!! Every sign and symptom that describes Behcet's is every one I have! even the blood clots! I'm so depressed and hurt so badly, but thanks to pain clinics in our area being featured on the show Intervention (the episode about hillbilly heroin,aka Oxycontin)no Dr. around wants to prescribe anything for pain, I need HELP! I've been dealing with this disease since I was 22 years old!

You are certainly in the right place to get information on this disease.
I never really had any problems getting pain killers when the GP realised how bad my knees have been troubling me. My knees were extremely bad before l was diagnosed with this disease, Now l know why!!! ( Was diagnosed in Feb but feel certain l have had this disease all my life. )
Maybe you need to try and get an MRI on your knees to really see what the problems are. Your rheumatoligist can send you for this.
Then you can decide if any more can be done to help you with the knee problems.
I have no pain in the knee that l have had the knee replacement carried out on.However it take a lot of determination to recover from this surgery . It was no easy decision deciding to go through with it. Very painful indeed.
Stay positive and try ice on those knees. I find it really helpful after a full day on my feet at work.

It's not just my knees that are in terrible shape, my right ankle and heel hurt like crazy to the point I walk on my tip toe on that foot because I can't stand any kind of pressure at all on my heel. It's moved to my hips and lower back, just pain in almost every joint. I have several mouth ulcers, all the time and have had MANY genital ulcers that make it painful to go to the bathroom and to bathe, in order to do either one I have to put on a ton of lidocaine. I just wish I was taken seriously instead of being treated like I'm crazy. My pain is real, my ulcers, blood clots, etc. are real! I'm thinking of making an appointment with Dr. Y in NYC, however it will be costly considering he doesn't take our insurance, just wondering if anyone else out there has seen him and if it's worth it, I just want a Dr. That's familiar with what I'm going through and is ready to help instead of putting me down for hurting so badly for my age. None of us asked for this crappy disease, I'm just asking for some help and compassion!

Im pretty late on this forum but just joined to add that Im 22 with Behcets and my knees will flare up every once in a while and it feels like I have the arthritis of an 80 year old. I havent had any injuries or anything just strong inflammation.

Welcome to this support group. Of late it has been tooo peaceful. Nobody talking lately.

Sorry about your knees. I have the same experiences as you. At the moment my knees are much younger and healthier. The methotrexate has brought down the inflammation to a level that is the best l have felt for years.

Perhaps you could benefit from this medication. I do not know your whole story so perhaps this is not for you........
