crps are a marker of inflammation. they can go up during infection. did your doc ask you to run the test again in a few days? if so, the doc may be watching to see if they come down or go up. how r u feeling?

Thanks for the response! :) I have been pretty much having a continuous flare for the past 9 months. When I was about 6 months pregnant, last year, I began having more intense symptoms which actually led to my being diagnosed. Since pregnancy, my body has continued to have extremely high inflammation and flare ups continuously. I know that pregnancy affects everyone differently, but for me it seriously exacerbated my Behcet's disease. So, the short answer is that I don't feel well at all and my doc says it's probably due to the high inflammation, as indicated by the high CRP. I was just wondering what others with BD usually have for their CRP levels while having a flare. In essence, I want to see if my levels are "normal" for someone with BD (because they're obviously not normal for a healthy person). I am supposed to have labs done again this week, so I will go in on Monday and see how they have changed.

Mine has been that higher and a wee bit higher...but honestly it is a BIG warning sign.
Please have them run more tests, as it is not OKAY to have it this high, as that is when I ended up with Thrombosis. I am not saying you have Thrombosis, but something needs to lower it ASAP or they need to at leat let you know why it is that high.
I care and do not want them to ignore this warning sign.
Pleae let me know what they find out.

Thanks guys! Mona, I know what you mean-- I am worried about my numbers being that high, but I have no idea what could specifically be causing it. I am hoping it is not something serious, like it was in your case, but you're right that it's good to be cautious. My rheumy seemed concerned since I was (and am) feeling so poorly, but she didn't seem concerned from a health standpoint. i have tried to research this topic, but it has been difficult. There just isn't that much info out there about cases where CRP levels are this high! Any helpful websites or URLs that you all have found would be much appreciated! Thanks for the responses, as always-- you guys here on this site are the only ones who understand what this disease is like to live with!

Dear Laura and others who might have this going on,
When one has a High CRP, have th following blood tests and other tests are recommended they are:

I\IgG, IgM, IgA and anymore in this series
Liver Function
Kidney Function
MRI (right weights to detect Neuro lesions/read by one that can tell the difference between MS and Lupus versus BD)
Anti-Phosolipid Series (LAC or Factor II and more)
Electrolytes
Vitamin D
CBC/Differential and check bone marrow for incomplete leukocytes (not all labs can do this test)
Blood Clotting Factors other than Phosolipid test
EEG
EKG
Lung X-ray
This is a good start....I STRONGLY suggest these tests.. Watch for leg cramps and pain, swelling in the legs or one leg. Discolored skin. Shortness of breath.
Doppler Ultrasound
SED may be normal which throws off a doctor, CRP is more precise per some Specialists.
I think this should be done ASAP and a Doctor might say some are redundant but if it does not show up on one test it will on another.(This is a RARE disease and is different)
I want to stress this may provide a clear direction of what it is not and they must due their due diligence to rule out what it is not, too conclude what it is. Do NOT have a STRESS TEST for the heart, it can cause a big flare at this point.
Please request the tests.
I am praying for you and that they find an answer, If they increased your Prednisone it could affect the testing by lowering your CRP and somethings not showing up. But do not stop anymedicine without the doctors orders.

This is ones own healrh and they need to know if anything else is going on.
My CRP was 72 this is HIGH. Your was in the 60'd I think.
FIVE is the top of normal.
If it was only 10, any Specialist would recommend only a few tests, but this is high for anyone with Behcets.

Your health is important and so is everyone else's reading this they need to find out what is going on. I care!

Wow, thanks for all the great info, Mona! I will definitely talk to my rheumy immediately and go in for my second blood test (hopefully my CRP levels have gone down a bit). Last month is when these levels were taken and, believe it or not, my CRP was 78!! I have not had any of the symptoms you mentioned that could indicate thrombosis (thank God) but I certainly don't feel good. Thank you so much for all of the info and support-- as usual, you are invaluable to this site and to all of us on it, Mona! :)

The first clue I had DVT was a high CRP...they let mine go too long and I had a Pulmonary Embolism.(a lot of clots in my lungs!) Maybe the high CRP caused the DVT... it the chicken and egg theory? The DVT caused the high CRP?
I was so lucky to live through it. I did not even know what to look for or how it would feel to have DVT or clots in my lungs before this happened to me. It was painful to have my leg so swollen and the coloring was odd (reddish/purple). Once they knew what it was I could not move or the clots could have killed me. It took 3 days until the IV medicine dissolved them..
Behcets is a vasculitis disease and yours is active! Therefore, they really need to watch for anything that can cause damage to your body or even your eye sight. You have such a wonderful outlook and are so kind. I hope you can have someone go to your appointment with you. A real TIGER to get them looking at your situation very seriously! Well, maybe not a tiger, but someone that has the attitude of one!
I am praying your CRP will come down and all will be fine. Most of all I do not want to worry you, however I do want to let you know it is important.

I have been living with behcets for about 10 years now and I can say that my CRP has always been consistently high. I am completely healthy right now and not having a flare and my CRP is 12. When I had my last flare my CRP was 247.1. I obviously was VERY sick and needed to be hospitalized but did not have any issues outside of the normal symptoms of Behcets (no thrombosis). I would recommend getting all of the tests that the other users suggest just to be safe but don't panic. Living with Behcets we have to be cautious but not drive ourselves insane with What-ifs. Prednisone helped with my inflammation and pain a lot. If you aren't already taking it I would consider it. There are draw backs to this drug but they far out weigh the pain of a Behcets flare in my opinion. Hang in there.
