Bedwetting Support Group
Bedwetting (or nocturnal enuresis or sleepwetting) is involuntary urination while asleep. It is the normal state of affairs in infancy, but can be a source of embarrassment when it persists into school age or the teen or adult years. Find others who are coping with a bedwetting problem and share your experiences and questions.

I'm sorry to hear of your leakage issue (incontinence). I also have that issue as the result of surgery. I do have a solution for you, I believe, but you must bring your parents into this discussion. You and I and many others have what is a medical condition and so you must treat it as such. That means you must talk about it and take action to manage it until, God willing, you grow out of it. Until then, there are devices that you can wear at night or during the day that will reduce or eliminate your leakage. See my note below that I had written earlier, which is something you may consider. There are several other devices that you'll find on the internet, but I think our soft silicone sleeve design is better than all the rest. You and your parents may be the judge.

Since my prostatectomy eight years ago, my incontinence remains at the moderate to severe level. For over two years I have been developing a device, a silicone sleeve, that now may be comfortably worn all day (and all night), requires no removal or adjustments before or after urinating, and allows me to be active, including jogging or working in the yard. I need volunteers willing to test my product and complete a survey questionnaire after 30 days or so. The number one priority is comfort, followed by convenience and performance. I was not one to use devices that required removal and reset during restroom stops nor devices which greatly impeded my lifestyle, hence my search for something better than anything presently available. Before I commit to production and marketing, I'd like to gain positive support from an unbiased group. Do us both a favor and contact me at amhelp@comcast.net. Fynlee
We all know that wetting the bed is unpleasant, but functioning properly during the day after a good night's sleep is vital.
After a day or two you would be so tired to you couldn't function properly.
Your parents concern about about not getting enough sleep is justified and like Lisa said you need your sleep.
With lack of sleep you could fall asleep at school and other places during the day and most likely that would not work out for you.
Waking up to your mom checking to see if you wet the bed is a tough way to start the day for for sure.
Can you and your parents talk openly about things without getting frustrated and upset with each other?
You could ask your mom if rather than her checking you like that if it would be ok if you just tell her if you had a dry or wet night.
Just tell her nicely you find it really awkward when she checks you and ask if it's ok to just tell her if you wet.
You could also ask about maybe trying your alarm idea on the weekends only but rather than every 20 minutes try to set your alarm for 3 hours and see if that works and try it for several nights.
If it is too long and you wet the bed then reduce it to 2.5 hours.
It's a great idea that your trying ways to manage your bed wetting but you might need to change your approach some.
Doing it only on nights that you don't have school the next day is for the best.
If you can wake up to your alarm after sleeping 3 hours that is encouraging and well worth trying but again best to be done on nights you don't have school.
Talking with your parents about the things you would like to try and calmly telling them about the things your hoping to do differently might be away for you and your parents to work together on trying your idea of peeing every so often during the night.
Sometimes finding away to manage and adapt to a problem ends up being the best option.
It's great your working on doing that but I think getting your parents involved with it will make them more supportive and it will give them the chance to discuss any concerns they might have.
That is a positive result talking things over with your parents and getting them to agree with what your doing and you agreeing to when you should try it is awesome.
Your mom means well and it might take a few gentle reminders before she stops checking you part of it would be that she is hopeful you had a dry night.
Not trying it on school nights is for the best because it is far more important that you get a good nights sleep.
With just starting this it will take awhile to sort out the times to set your alarm.
You could also try an extra trip to the bathroom before you sleep if you get ready for bed and it is a half hour or so before you try to sleep it might be worth trying to pee again just before you try to sleep.
It may also help you to keep a journal about what you try and if anything seems to help.
The journal needs to be pretty detailed but once it is set up they are easy to update daily.
You should be really proud of yourself for working this out with your parents hopefully it is just the start of better things for you.
What do I writ in a journal mike?
Maybe it would work better to just set it up that you don't say anything and that means you wet the bed. Tell your mom that if you have a dry night you will let her know with wetting every night now there is really no need to ask every morning so just telling her about a dry night will make it easier for you.
Your mom might be just not understanding that your at the age now that all of this is very awkward for you and uncomfortable to talk about.
When you were younger being checked and asked about wetting the bed was probably not much of an issue.
Now that it is awkward for you and upsets you talking things over with your mom might help it will take some work to get her to change what she does but you can sort it out with her.
Tell her how it makes you feel when she checks you and ask her to please stop talking about it in front of others.
Even if the others already know about the bed wetting it is still so awkward and embarrassing to be asked about it in front of others.
I think if you can have just a nice calm talk with her about how it makes you feel when she does these things it will help her understand.
The embarrassment and how awkward it is to talk openly about bed wetting is something many just don't understand so it can take awhile to get them to change.
A journal can be as detailed as you want it can be used to keep track of wet and dry nights, accidents, number of times.
Things you try and if it helped or not.
What you drink and eat.
Just depends on what you want to put in it.
I told her to please not embarrass me but another thing is that im supposed to throw away wet diapers in the garbage in the kitchen so everyone sees there that I've got a wet diaper. And I told my mom i felt embarrassed so she put a diaper pail in my room and its even worse becaause she calls it a diaper pail. Its a "diaper genie" if u know what that is. its so theres no bad smell. And I don't want it in my room and I also don't want to let everyone see me throw it away wet in the kitchen so i don't know what to do.
the other problem is that i have to wait a while in a wet diaper because other people are in the bathroom and i have to wait and if i take the diaper off and then have other clothes on my skin they'll get pee on them . So my mom knocks on the batthroom door this morning and shouted to my sister to hurry up. she said your brother is wet and needs the shower
It is good to keep track of things like if your stressed about things or if you have any anxiety issues.
Even keeping track of things like what you drink is worth doing just in case your wetting gets worse if you drink pop or other things high in sugar.
Sounds like your really doing good with talking things over with your mom it does sound like some things still need to be sorted out but great that you both are working on it.
The diaper pail in your room is the best option probably maybe if it pretty small you can put it inside of a regular waste basket or in a tote box.
With it in your room it is better than putting the wet diapers in the kitchen garbage and when you need to empty it just get a normal garbage bag to put it if your concerned about that.
It is tough when you have to wait for the bathroom but you could still change in your room and just put on pajama bottoms or a pair of old sweat pants that you don't wear much.
Your mom is listening to what your telling her and it's great that you are talking with her about the things that your uncomfortable with sounds like she might need to work a bit on being more discrete but it's great she is trying.
